Kelvin Cheah

A hospitality entrepreneur redefining Malaysia’s dining scene through Michelin-recognised restaurants that celebrate local flavours with modern innovation

Together with his twin brother Alex Cheah, Kelvin Cheah is one half of the visionary duo behind Karls Group, the lifestyle and hospitality collective shaping Kuala Lumpur’s modern dining culture. The group’s acclaimed restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Beta KL and Skillet KL, have redefined Malaysian gastronomy by fusing the country’s culinary heritage with contemporary innovation. Their newer ventures—Upper House KL, a modern Asian rooftop restaurant in Chinatown, and Supernormal, a café championing accessible, high-quality coffee—continue this mission of making refined dining approachable and relevant to a wider audience.

In 2025, the brothers expanded Karls Group’s footprint with Social Room, a cocktail bar in Menara Milenium designed for the city’s corporate crowd, featuring inventive signature cocktails, timeless classics, and a zero-proof menu. An adjacent all-day bistro, Rhea, is set to open next, complementing the group’s growing portfolio of lifestyle destinations. With their consistent focus on creativity, craftsmanship, and community, the Cheah twins have positioned Karls Group as one of Malaysia’s leading forces in hospitality. Their forthcoming lifestyle and sports concept will unite fitness, recreation, and elevated cuisine, further broadening their impact on Malaysia’s culinary and cultural scene.
