Josie Ho has gone against the grain to score success in two different cultural fields. The actor and singer—eighth child of Stanley Ho, the legendary Macau gaming tycoon—had to fight her father to pursue her dream of making a career in music, and credits her sister Pansy, now co-chair of casino giant MGM China Holdings, with helping her win that battle.

Ho started off as a pop musician before switching to indie rock, a style that she found expressed her personality and musical preferences far better. She has starred in numerous films in a career stretching back to 1994, making her breakthrough in 1999 action film Purple Storm, and making perhaps her biggest impression with 2004 romantic drama Butterfly.

Ho also has a strong entrepreneurial streak, and has set up her own music label, Drill Team 162, and film company, 852 Films, which she founded in 2017 with her husband, fellow actor Conroy Chan.
