The artistic director of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre for more than a decade, Anthony Chan has fulfilled a wide range of roles within the local theatrical community. Starting off as an actor, he became a prolific playwright—some of his best-known works are Metamorphosis under the Stars (1986), Field of Dreams (2008) and Footprints in the Snow (2014).


Chan has also worked extensively as a theatre educator; he spent 19 years at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, becoming the institution’s head of directing and playwriting, and designing its MFA in Drama (Directing). He was named Artist of the Year by the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild in 1991, and awarded in the Outstanding Achievements of the Decade category in 1994 by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies. He is a member of the China Theatre Association, and an assessor of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
