For those flying solo this year, here’s the ultimate guide to spending Cupid’s day with some of the most important people in your life

The season of red hearts, roses, and chubby angel babies wielding bows and arrows is coming up. But what if you find yourself navigating the upcoming weekend without a partner? Fear not. Being a single woman on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. On the contrary, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate other manifestations of love, that is, self-care and quality time with the other meaningful relationships in your life.

Gather your closest pals, turn off the television, and put away that pint of ice cream. Here are some suggestions to guarantee a fun and flirty holiday.

For the intellectual

Chino Roces Avenue and Legazpi Village are home to some of the most impressive galleries in the Metro, from the likes of Silverlens to Leon Gallery. Gather your girlfriends and spend a quiet afternoon exploring the vibrant art scene. Afterwards, treat yourselves to a quick bite and contemplative debrief at one of the many nearby cafes or restaurants.

For the stressed

Perhaps, you need to let off a little steam. Trade flowers and chocolates for baseball bats and sledgehammers, and head to the rage room to let out some of those post-ghosted frustrations. It’s cathartic, empowering, and a good way to bond with your friends while proving you don’t need a date to have some fun.

For the adventurous

Skip the usual shopping trip or brunch and spend your day conquering a mountain instead. A day hike is a great way to escape the city and reconnect with nature. Many places with guided trails are within driving distance to Metro Manila, like Pinatubo or Pulag. Gather your friends and lace up your boots. Hike all the way to the top and soak it all in. It’s a rewarding feeling and that serotonin boost trumps any night spent by your lonesome.

Tap into your creative side and sign you and your friends up for a relaxing paint-and-sip session. It’s a chance to enjoy great wine and great company. No experience? That’s not a problem, as the instructors will guide you step by step. It’s an easy activity to do at home as well, if you just want to be in each other’s company.

For the curious

A day of antiquing might be just the way to spend such a romantic holiday, especially if you’re a group of self-proclaimed old-souls. Manila is home to some pretty interesting finds, where vintage shops and flea markets seem to run in surplus. It’s a creative way to bond with your friends while exploring hidden gems and finding something unique to bring home.
