The inimitable Jericho Rosales and Janine Guiterrez are the faces of Ulthera Prime. “The Vertical Axis Lift [VAL] is something I created because I wanted to replicate the beautiful, natural-looking results of the deep plane facelift—also known as the vertical facelift—but without surgery,” Dr Belo enthuses. The traditional facelift pulls the skin toward the ears, resulting in marks that are far more visible on Filipino skin, due to its pigmentation. She thus wanted a procedure that replicated those effects, but without having to go under the knife. VAL addresses the same areas as Ulthera Prime and takes it a step further by targeting multiple layers, including the dermo-epidermal junction (DEJ) and the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). In short, it lifts the foundational structure of the skin, resulting in a smooth, rejuvenated appearance.
“To simplify,” Dr Kho explains, “the DEJ is like the fabric of a tent, while the SMAS is like the poles. If you only tighten one, the result won’t last or look complete. So with VAL, we use different energy-based technologies, including Ulthera Prime, to tighten those key layers.”
