Phuket’s annual turtle release event is a popular conservation initiative focused on protecting endangered sea turtles and raising awareness about the importance of safeguarding their habitats and the impact of human activity on the environment.
Held every year in April, typically on April 13 or during the period when the hatchlings emerge from the sand and make their way to the ocean, the event takes place island-wide and is open to the public. Participants not only learn about these protected animals but also have the chance to assist in ensuring the hatchlings safely reach the sea. Activities include helping to build barricades to protect the hatchlings from predators and assisting in locating any stray hatchlings that may have become trapped under rocks or beach furniture.
