As Vietnam’s luxury tourism sector continues to flourish, weaving the nuances of Asian sophistication into the guest experience has emerged as a defining trend, as seen at Regent Phu Quoc.

Among the many high-end retreats, Regent Phu Quoc shines as a rare gem where traditional cultural essence is gracefully layered into each element, offering guests moments of refinement and emotional depth.

We invite readers to join Tatler on a journey through Eastern refinement, where the senses are awakened and the soul finds ease.

In your opinion, what elements at Regent Phu Quoc reflect the profound traditional values of East Asian culture?

There are so many. If I may, I would divide them into two groups: those that can be seen and touched—tangibles, and those that are felt with the heart—intangibles. From the culinary offerings, architecture, design, landscapes and artworks, which can be experienced through the senses, to the more delicate qualities of service and staff-guest interaction. Everything at Regent Phu Quoc reflects an Asian ethos that honours heritage, cultural roots, and a spirit of warmth and attentiveness.

How has Regent Phu Quoc brought meaningful Asian influences into its architectural and interior design?

Regent Phu Quoc was conceived by the visionary architects of BLINK Design Group, drawing inspiration from the island’s rich ecosystem and tranquil landscapes. The design language relies on traditional Vietnamese materials, while also encouraging exploration from elevated viewpoints.

Before beginning the design process, the BLINK team invested significant time in studying local cultures, materials and customs. One signature element is the wooden truss system of traditional Vietnamese homes known as Bovi, which has been abstracted and reinterpreted into motifs found throughout the resort’s suites and villas, from rugs and screens to the wall detailing.

Another traditional element, the Gian Nha partition structure, has been incorporated throughout the courtyard villas. Each villa is equipped with an infinity pool and a private plunge pool that connect indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a deeper sense of harmony with nature. These structural blocks are carefully positioned to create seamless transitions between the living area, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom—bringing life to the space while also offering guests the flexibility to customise privacy with lockable compartments.

“A traditional house is often composed of compartments and courtyards. These individual spaces create different experiential transitions within the same house. Our spatial partitions represent a contemporary interpretation of the House Pavilion, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors,” said Clint Nagata, founder of BLINK.

The omakase cuisine at Regent Phu Quoc can be said to be the pinnacle of Asian style perfectly combined with modern Western culinary art. The significance of omakase is certain, but can you share more about how Regent’s Oku restaurant did it?

No conversation about fine dining at Regent Phu Quoc would be complete without mentioning Oku, the resort’s signature restaurant and a true expression of its culinary philosophy. It offers a sensory journey where each dish is a distillation of artistry and innovation, igniting the senses from the first bite.

Oku draws from the precision and purity of Japanese omakase, while also introducing Salon de Boeuf, a refined space where premium cuts of beef are selected and served according to each diner’s preference. The menu is anchored in the freshest seasonal produce, transformed into thoughtful, beautifully crafted dishes.

This is also the creative ground where Chef Andy Huynh’s imagination thrives. He continues to explore and refine flavour profiles, harmonising local ingredients with the finesse of Japanese omakase to create something truly his own.

From the perspective of someone working in the hotel industry, how do you think the sophistication in creating meaningful and gentle experiences at Regent resorts contributes to perfecting the classy and sophisticated resort experience for Asians?

At Regent Phu Quoc, we believe that true sophistication lies in the ability to craft meaningful and gentle experiences, moments that quietly resonate on a personal level. We are acutely aware of the expectations of our Asian guests, who seek refinement and take comfort in service that instinctively anticipates their needs. With this in mind, our team is dedicated not only to delivering luxury, but also to offering moments of depth designed to meet the expectations of guests who are both discerning and refreshingly understated.

How did Regent Phu Quoc make a customer’s vacation “invisible” but still leave a deep and subtle impression in their hearts?

At Regent, we work to ensure that each stay becomes a lasting memory through a seamless and considered approach. Our service standards are designed to feel effortless: unobtrusive yet attentive. Alongside our warm, intuitive hospitality, we emphasise the importance of creating “perfect moments”.

These might be gentle surprises that guests were not expecting, or genuine, spontaneous interactions that linger in the mind. Sometimes, it is a bespoke setup in a quiet corner of Bai Truong’s natural beauty crafted exclusively for one guest. We believe there should be no limit to the pursuit of delight. It is through this spirit that extraordinary memories are born, often when guests least expect them.
