Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong

While the skyline of Central is a revolving door of shiny new glass towers, the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong remains a definitive anchor on the harbourfront.

Guest rooms are airy sanctuaries where traditional Chinese landscape motifs—ink wash paintings and silk-paneled walls—mingle with sleek, bespoke furnishings in a palette of soft teals and warm woods.

The real heartbeat of the hotel, however, is its social spaces. The lobby acts as a vibrant living room, and just steps away is Argo, with its towering centre-stage bar clad in illuminated glass vitrines and revolving cylinders of rare spirits — one of the most beautiful spots in the city to watch the sun set over the water.

Up on the sixth-floor terrace, the facilities feel more like a private Mediterranean club than a city hotel. The infinity-edge pool—complete with underwater speakers so you never miss a beat—appears to cascade seamlessly into the harbour beyond. For those seeking a deeper reset, the 22,000 sq ft spa offers wellness programmes and vitality pools that make the busy pace of Central feel like a distant memory.

Tatler Tip: Few people know it, but Caprice Bar is a less formal, though no less exceptional, way to experience the hotel’s revered French restaurant,Caprice. Enjoy cocktails and a curated bar menu—we love the pata negra croque-monsieur with four cheeses, and the wagyu tartare with gillardeau oyster and caviar.

The two penthouses feature  private roofs with sweeping views of the city and heated swimming pools. The  East Penthouse was designed by Yabu Pushelberg, while The West Penthouse by Bilkey Llinas Design.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

For over 35 years, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong has reigned as a definitive city icon, serving as a go-to address for society weddings, glittering gala balls and high-profile events, regularly welcoming royalty, world leaders and celebrities.

The experience begins in the triple-height lobby, a soaring space where sweeping twin staircases and dramatic black marble columns instantly set a tone of grandeur.

The hotel’s 524 rooms artfully balance modern luxury with subtle Chinoiserie accents, while floor-to-ceiling windows offer some of the most expansive Victoria Harbour views in the city.

What truly sets the Grand Hyatt apart is its powerhouse culinary portfolio. From the institution that is the Grand Hyatt Steakhouse to the authentic Cantonese refinement of One Harbour Road and the legendary Hainanese chicken rice at Grand Café, it remains a premier dining destination.

Tatler tip: It’s absolutely worth booking a room with access to the double-story Grand Club Lounge for champagne and refreshments on the house with stellar city views.

Island Shangri-La

“The Shang” has played a special role in Hongkongers’ memories since 1991: family yum cha at Summer Palace, celebrating birthdays with the legendary Frou Frou cake from Island Gourmet or summers by the pool surrounded by skyscrapers.

Following a major renovation, the hotel has a fresh new look while maintaining the charm and hospitality that have made it a Hong Kong icon. Its newly appointed suites by French interior designer Tristan Auer — who also designed Hotel de Crillon in Paris and Carlton Cannes — are fine examples of tastefully executed maximalism, featuring elegant details rooted in chinoiserie.

It has also established itself as a firm favourite among traveling and local families — thanks in large part to its Themed Family Suites, featuring playful designs to the tune of Space, Winter Wonderland, Airship Voyage, Jungle and Fairy Garden themes. Don’t worry; there’s always an adjoining room for parents so they don’t miss out on the glamour of a Shangri-la stay.

Tatler tip: Don’t skip Lobster Bar, with its Art Deco interiors and excellent cocktails. On weekends, their Sunday roast is the real deal.

Best rooms

The Hong Kong Suite is a love letter to the city’s past.In the living room, a mural depicts the city’s roots as a 19th century fishing village, and throughout is a museum-worthy collection of commissioned artworks and antiques. Our favourite? A round bathtub framed by hand-cut mosaics inspired by magnolias, a flower once reserved for Chinese emperors.

Its spa, Yun Wellness, evokes glamorous riviera living—think striped parasols by the pool, soft textiles and an abundance of tropical flora. It’s also the only hotel spa in Hong Kong with infrared saunas.

Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong

This bold newcomer is proving that luxury doesn’t always have to wear a suit and tie. Rising 50 storeys above the historic former Mariners’ Club, Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui has injected a dose of Wes Anderson-esque whimsy to Kowloon. Housed in a striking V-shaped tower, every single one of its 495 rooms looks out over glittering Victoria Harbour.

Inside, the design—a collaboration between P&T Architects and HBA Hong Kong—is a "love letter" to the neighborhood's maritime roots. You’ll find red-brick walls echoing the nearby Signal Hill Tower, hammered steel ceilings that mimic the ripple of the harbour, and rattan textures that nod to local craft. It’s sophisticated, yes, but with a playful edge: think purple-clad staff and a daily "Social Hour" at Birdsong, where guests mingle over complimentary pours as the sun dips below the horizon.

Tatler tip: Head to the rooftop Swim Club. It captures a transportive Southern California pool vibe. Order a calamansi-infused cocktail and snag a cabana for the best sunset views in the city.

Best rooms

The Kimpton Harbour Suite with Balcony features a rare private terrace and a marble-framed plunge bath positioned against the glazing, allowing you to soak while feeling as though you’re floating above the city.

Elevated extras

Check out the 24-hour gym—it’s the first and only Hyrox-affiliated hotel fitness centre in Hong Kong. For those who prefer a slower pace, the 20-metre heated rooftop pool offers a 360-degree panorama of the skyline.

Lanson Place Causeway Bay

Lanson Place Causeway Bay was designed by French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. Known for his work on iconic luxury properties like the Four Seasons George V, Rochon transformed the hotel into a chic, tranquil sanctuary that balances its stately heritage façade with modern elegance.

The redesign emphasises a "timeless address" inspired by nature and classic French aesthetics. Guests are welcomed by a soft palette of powder blues, citrus yellows, and warm stone tones, complemented by curved lounge chairs and a playful mix of textiles. The 188 guest rooms and six exclusive penthouses feature floor-to-ceiling windows, flooding the spaces with natural light and offering panoramic views of Victoria Park and the Hong Kong skyline.

Beyond the rooms, the design focus extends to Salon Lanson, a sophisticated cocktail lounge.

Tatler tip: The hotel has a lovely gym, but it’s also steps away from Victoria Park — get your steps in there, surrounded by local aunties and uncles doing their daily tai chi and qi gong

Best rooms

If you’re travelling with kids or booking a long stay, opt for one of the suites that come with a cosy kitchenette. The penthouses feel particularly homey.

The artworks on display have been handpicked by the hotel’s designer from a gallery in France – look carefully and you’ll spot originals by the likes of Henri Matisse and Jean Cocteau.

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

This is where the Mandarin Oriental story began. Even today, there is a certain gilded alchemy to the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong’s lobby that remains unmatched. Stepping off Connaught Road, you’re entering the living room of Hong Kong’s well-heeled — a space anchored by its iconic black marble columns and low-slung chandeliers that cast a warm, amber glow—a sultry contrast to the flicker of surrounding skyscrapers.

Similarly, guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the lights and energy of the city inside, while stately decor offer nods to Hong Kong history by way of treasured antiques and Chinese-inspired design elements.

The Mandarin Spa also features design that references Chinese heritage through dark woods, lacquered finishes and a mood reminiscent of old Shanghai teahouses. Treatments are deeply rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a focus on balance, qi flow and holistic wellbeing. An in‑house Chinese doctor offers acupuncture, bone‑setting and hot cupping, bringing authentic clinical TCM into a luxury spa context.

The legendary Mandarin Barber, inspired by gentlemen’s clubs of the 1930s, offers treatments like traditional wet shaves and the centuries-old Shanghainese pedicure.

Tatler tip: Arrive at the spa early to enjoy Chinese herbal steam rooms, saunas and heated tepidarium loungers, echoing traditional bathhouse culture.

Best rooms

The Harbour View Suites might seem like the obvious choice, but we love the Statue Square suites which place you in the centre of some of Central’s most iconic architectural marvels.

Exceptional extras

The hotel’s restaurants and bars hold a special place in many Hongkongers’ hearts—from fine Cantonese fare at Man Wah to the beloved tiffin boxes at Captain’s Bar, an institution. Its rooftop bar, The Aubrey, has led the revival of hotel bars in Hong Kong.

The Peninsula Hong Kong

To stay at The Peninsula is to be woven into the fabric of Hong Kong’s history. Since opening in 1928, the city’s Grand Dame has been a stalwart of elegance and five-star service. While its colonnaded lobby and fleet of  custom Brewster Green Rolls-Royces are visual shorthand for old-world glamour, the true "Pen" magic lies in its intuitive service.

It is a choreography of grace—from the white-gloved pageboys who remember your name across decades to a concierge team that treats the impossible like a walk in the park. Here, luxury is found in a seamless, hushed efficiency.

Dining options range from the city’s most coveted afternoon tea in The Lobby to sky-high dinner and drinks at Felix to French fare at Gaddi’s, and exceptional Cantonese cuisine at Spring Moon—don’t forget to buy a jar of its famous XO sauce to take home.

Tatler Tip: The Bar at The Peninsula is one of the city’s oldest, and perhaps most underrated. There’s still a live band and bartenders dressed to the nines, serving some of the most thoughtfully crafted cocktails.

Best rooms

The spectacular Peninsula Suite on the 26th floor features an impressive double-height living room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace.

Elevated extras

The hotel invites guests to fall in love with Hong Kong through a series of exclusive experiences, including a flight over the city on The Peninsula Helicopter and its Afternoon Tea Voyage, where champagne, tea and treats are served on an original Star Ferry vessel refurbished by The Peninsula.

Regent Hong Kong

Tsim Sha Tsui’s most recognisable harbourfront property, Regent Hong Kong weaves together a fresh and modern look with touches of nostalgia. Like displaying artworks recovered from the original hotel which opened in 1980, while retaining spaces and design elements that generations of  Hongkongers' love and remember. In a city that can be quick to tear down and rebuild, The Regent Hong Kong’s commitment to keeping memories alive is a heartwarming touch.

In the harbour view rooms and suites, every effort is made to maximise The Regent Hong Kong's panoramic vistas: floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows frame a postcard-perfect snapshot, with daybeds that span the length of the windows.

The Regent Hong Kong is also home to Nobu Hong Kong, and the legendary Steak House, a beloved institution and the first steakhouse in Hong Kong to feature a charcoal grill.

Tatler tip: Make time for afternoon tea at The Lobby Lounge—the scones are legendary, and the cinematic views through the expansive glass walls make it the most glamorous front-row seat in Kowloon.

Best rooms

Rosewood Hong Kong

Standing as the crown jewel of Victoria Dockside, Rosewood Hong Kong has redefined the city’s skyline and, ultimately, the standards for hospitality in Asia. This is the global flagship for the brand, conceived by Tony Chi as a "vertical estate" that feels more like a palatial family manor than a hotel. From the moment you sweep up the cobblestone driveway—passing the Henry Moore bronze sculpture—you are transported into a world of curated opulence.

The design blends geometric patterns, checked marble floors and an incredible rotating collection of contemporary art (including the life-sized Damien Hirst "Skin" in the Butterfly Room). It’s a property that rewards the observant guest: look closely and you’ll find custom-woven Loro Piana fabrics, hammered metal finishes, and hidden spaces that offer an elevated level of residential privacy.

Beyond its visual prowess, Rosewood has become the city's ultimate social hub. Whether it’s the high-fashion crowd gathering for late-night revelry at DarkSide, the hotel pulses with a sophisticated energy that makes it the definitive place to see and be seen in the 852.

Tatler tip: Upgrading to Manor Club access is worth every penny. Designed to feel like an ultra-exclusive social club, enjoy free-flow premium pours and snacks throughout the day — a real perk is the pool table and the wraparound outdoor terrace.

Best rooms

The Harbour House is a 12,000 sq ft residential masterpiece, featuring two limestone-clad bedrooms, a private gym and a landscaped outdoor wraparound terrace with a private lap pool.

Upper House Hong Kong

There are many reasons the world’s most well-heeled travellers — from celebrities to fashion designers, CEOs to artists — call Upper House Hong Kong their home away from home. It’s the kind of hotel that just “gets” it.

It’s the warm, sleek interiors; the absence of a “close door” button in the elevator—a rare but welcome reminder in Hong Kong that it’s OK to slow down; it’s the thoughtful and timeless design that ultimately defined André Fu’s career; but most of all, it’s the service.

Always professional and intuitive, yet refreshingly informal. Here, an off-hand comment the signature ginger verbena fragrance could mean a candle has been organised for you to take home.

Its 117 spacious studios and suites feature details crafted from wood and stone, softened by lush textiles in deep hues. They also boast the sexiest bathrooms in Hong Kong—every room features a deep soaking tub, positioned next to floor-to-ceiling windows.

Fu’s clever use of light and shadows create an aliveness in the rooms, as lit-up skyscrapers bounce off of the angled windows to bring the electric pulse of the city outside, in. Particularly at night, it’s a cinematic experience worthy of Wong Kar-Wai films.

Tatler tip: If the sun’s out, head to The Lawn — a chic yet often overlooked area of Upper House Hong Kong that’s perfect to enjoy long, lazy afternoons.

Best rooms

The André Fu Suite is a 1,960-square-foot sanctuary reimagined from a two-bedroom penthouse. There’s a dining table for 20 and a dedicated spa area with twin massage beds. Adorned with over 100 pieces from the André Fu Living collection and hand-selected books from his personal library.

Elevated extras
