Here’s a throwback to some of the late princess’s favourite travel destinations
The late Princess Diana was many things—a mother, style icon, philanthropist, advocate and traveller. Over the years, we have seen the late royal spending her winters skiing in the Swiss Alps while basking under the tropical sun in the British Virgin Islands in summer. She definitely knew how to travel right.
As the princess was constantly in the public eye, she especially cherished moments of tranquillity and privacy when abroad. So it’s not surprising to see that her favourite vacation spots are some that are away from crowds.
Below, we share some of her favourite spots to visit.

1. Island of Nevis, The Caribbean

Away from the bustling island of St Kitts is Nevis, a hidden and tranquil oasis known for its sandy beaches and postcard-perfect views. With no big malls, casinos or buildings, it’s no wonder Princess Diana enjoys visiting the island for a short respite from the big crowds. In 1993, the late princess was captured in a bright orange bikini during a trip to the Caribbean. There, she was also seen riding the waves with a boogie board.
2. Lech, Austria

The late princess was constantly seen skiing down slopes with her sons, Prince Harry and Prince William in Lech, Austria. Diana was a big fan of the quaint village, thanks to its slopes, views and food. In Prince Harry’s latest memoir, Spare, he also wrote that he always enjoyed his time with his family in Lech—so much that he hoped to return to work there as an adult.
Not only is the village one of the late princess’s favourite destinations, but various European royals have also been seen vacationing in the area over the years, including Dutch royals King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima in 2020.
3. Saint Tropez, France

Shortly before her death, in 1997, the royal was seen spending the summer days in St Tropez. The royal was seen with her sons Prince William and Prince Harry on her ex-partner Dodi al Fayed’s yacht in Saint Tropez. In Spare, Prince Harry further shares that the trip was “heaven… mummy was smiling”.
One of the Mediterranean’s best beach destinations, the coastal town is loved for its beaches and nightlife. Explore the town on a yacht, like the late royal, and explore the beautiful French Riviera.
4. Necker Island, The Caribbean

This 30 hectare private island owned by Sir Richard Branson offer breathtaking sunsets, clear waters and white sandy beaches.In 1990, the late princess was seen visiting the island, along with her sons. Her mother as well as her siblings were also spotted vacationing on the island at the same time.
Throughout the years, various personalities have also been seen vacationing at the island, including former US president Barack Obama, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Nelson Mandela, and Boris Becker.
5. Klosters, Switzerland

According to the royals’s official website, the late princess went to finishing school in 1978 at the Institut Alpin Videmanette in Rougemont, Switzerland, before moving to London. It was seen that she returned to Switzerland every year for her winter holidays. The late royal would also bring her family along with her on these trips. Prince Harry’s docuseries Harry & Meghan also released video footage of their 1995 family ski trip to Switzerland. In the video, it was shown that Diana was protective of her children, asking the paparazzi (who were circling the family’s dinner table) to leave them alone.
Apart from being famous for its visits from the Royal family, Klosters is also known for its charming chalet-style resorts. Skiers and snowboarders would also revel in the village’s large ski areas and picturesque views.
