The new five-star hotel at Merdeka 118 Tower is where luxury, hospitality and gastronomy converge over unbeatable views from 100 floors up
When I was younger, I once stood looking up at the Petronas Twin Towers and other towering edifices in the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, unable to shake the feeling of how overwhelming and impersonal the city can feel at times.
However, standing 75 floors up in the luxurious lobby of Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur recently was a feeling quite the opposite. Imagine losing time staring out from floor-to-ceiling windows (spoiler: your suite has those too), spotting the Sultan Ahmad Samad building, Dataran Merdeka and other historic landmarks like they’re small fixtures in a miniature train set.
I didn’t think it possible but for a city hotel, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur somehow manages to transport you to another world, offering curated experiences that linger long after checkout.
Perched high in the glittering crown of Merdeka 118, the first-ever Park Hyatt property in Kuala Lumpur is not just the city’s most luxurious new address—it’s a love letter to Malaysia seen through an ultra-luxurious lens.
A modern ‘kampung’ in the clouds

From the moment I stepped through its kampung-inspired staircase to the time I woke to sunrise over the city and distant mountains, every moment felt like a discovery suspended in the sky.
Designed by the award-winning G.A Group, the interiors of Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur are a masterclass in cultural homage.
The entrance—a sweeping staircase reminiscent of traditional rumah kampung stilts—sets the tone for what’s inside: an architectural narrative that celebrates Malaysia’s soul. Rattan weaves through the furniture, brass screens echo batik motifs, and intricate artworks featuring maps of Kuala Lumpur adorn the lobby, anchoring the hotel’s lofty elegance in a sense of place.

A suite life: Inside the Park Suite

The Park Suite on the 105th floor was pure serenity—a cocoon of creamy marble and warm timber framing panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur.
From the king bed, I watched the skyline blur into rolling mountains. The bathtub—framed by its own window—offered a cinematic soak as city lights twinkled in the distance. Few places make you feel both above and connected to the city below quite like this.

In spite of its pomp and grandeur, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur masterfully scores with getting the details right. No guest is left feeling unattended or overlooked as the hotel staff avail themselves to assist with guest needs, all without hovering or being intrusive.
Neutral colour palettes combine for a warm and modern feel that’s something akin to the quiet luxury trend, but every so often you see a colourful wall adorned by a local mural artist, an inconspicuous set of small tapir sculptures peeking out cheekily from in between panels in the wall or bright red tiffins placed lovingly in your living room, packed with chocolate truffles and kuih-muih.
It’s hard to replicate the atmosphere of home, but Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur goes above and beyond to get it done.
Dining above the city

Once you’re settled in to the Park Suite, it’s hard to leave this peaceful sanctuary in the clouds.
But pre-dinner drinks await at Cacao Mixology & Chocolate, Southeast Asia’s only chocolate-themed bar in the clouds. With the city glittering below, I sipped on the ‘Cacao Club’ signature cocktail, a daring blend of Li Chu 64 per cent Raspberry Chocolate, Johnnie Walker Black, durian liqueur and lemon foam—an audacious Malaysian twist on cocktail artistry.
Ask the friendly staff here about Chef Holger Deh’s signature chocolate or savour signature chocolate-infused creations and classics, along with well-crafted chocolate pairings—to chocolate-lovers like myself, the entire setup is a grown-up version of being a ‘kid in a candy store’.

Next at Merdeka Grill, dinner consists of cedarwood-smoked salmon with caviar butter, served with tableside theatrics and bursting with flavour. The restaurant’s friendly sommelier will suggest wine pairings for your main courses, while an open kitchen setup lets you glimpse at the kitchen action while the beautiful aromas of charred meat and brioche bread waft through the air.
The dry aged Chateaubriand is another experience to remember, carved at your tableside and served with various sauces—I particularly enjoyed the X.O sauce for a hit of spice. Executive Chef Stig Drageide’s Nordic heritage is on display with dishes like the Vendance Roe served on thick Shokupan toast—a fusion of cultures that proved delicious.

Dessert came in the form of a Kelantan Dark Chocolate Sphere, flambéd to perfection, while the Oscietra Caviar dessert pairs Penang vanilla ice cream with a tiny scoop of caviar for a sweet-salty kick.
Morning arrived with an equally sumptuous affair: Park Hyatt’s elevated kaya toast with whipped butter and a sprinkling of paprika along with a Pandan Coconut Latte and French toast with a heaping helping of whipped cream and cinnamon-candied pineapples—breakfast as poetry.
Located on Level 99, The Spa is a sanctuary of sensory delight.
It offers private treatment suites, a Himalayan Salt Alcove and rare circadian therapies—one of the only spas in Southeast Asia to do so. Guests are treated to a session designed to harmonise body and mind through invigorating rituals and deeply restorative experiences.
The 30-metre infinity pool is a must-visit for a sunset swim. But I’m almost embarrassed to admit that the changing rooms here were a truly unexpected oasis for me: think heated loungers overlooking the windows, Dyson-equipped dressers, a vitality pool, aromatherapy steam bath, Le Labo amenities and a salt-wall sauna room.
My spa therapist exuded genuine Malaysian hospitality—kind, attentive and always calling me by name. Later, a hot cup of sweet ginger tea was served in the relaxation lounge, where my therapist suggested I take all the time I needed to relax.
That’s what sets Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur apart: beyond its architectural grandeur and skyline views, it’s the people who make the experience unforgettable. Here, luxury is seen in the details, yes—but it truly shines in the way you’re made to feel seen, known and cared for.
