Palazzo Talìa is housed in a beautifully restored 16th century Roman estate, featuring cinematic interior design by acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino

Acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino, who is behind films such as Call Me By Your Name (2017) and Challengers (2024) has lent his eye to an exciting new project—designing a gorgeous boutique hotel in Rome, Palazzo Talìa.

Guadagnino’s love of interior design and beautiful spaces is well documented, having founded his own interior design studio— Studio Luca Guadagnino—in 2017.

Palazzo Talìa was originally built in the 16th century. In its lifetime, it has had a succession of owners, including clergymen, noblemen and diplomats. At one point served as a school for the children of aristocrats, Nobile Collegio del Nazareno, before shutting its doors in 1999.

Now, Palazzo Talìa has been brought back to life by the Federici family—Roman industrialists who acquired the property—who assembled an incredible roster of Italy’s finest artisans and designers to take on the project.

Studio Luca Guadagnino was tasked with designing the hotel’s public spaces,  including Magna Hall, a 248-square-metre hall decorated with 18th-century frescoes originally painted by Italian artist Gaspare Serenario. Oversized carpets in bold floral patterns, structural furniture pieces and playful patterns reflect Guadagnino’s colourful cinematic style.

Studio Luca Guadagnino also designed one of the hotel’s most coveted suites, The Terrace Suite, which features a large plant-filled terrace overlooking the hotel’s historic central courtyard. Inside, it’s a wood-panelled, pastel-hued dream, complete with a green marble fireplace.

The remaining 25 guest rooms were designed by Marianna Lubrano Lavadera of design studio MIA Home Design Gallery, in collaboration with architect Laura Ferold.

At Tramae Restaurant, Guadagnino puts a Roman twist on the classic French bistro. It’s delightfully ‘80s.

The restaurant is helmed by chef Marco Coppola, the nostalgic menu features southern Italian classics, including Federici family favourite dishes like Milanese con l’osso and vitello tonnato.

Guests staying here should—at least once—experience aperitivi at the seductive Bar della Musa, where a menu of fresh oysters and delicate cocktails are inspired by the muses of mythology.

Tatler tip: If the weather is fine, take it outside to the bar's charming courtyard, Palazzo Patio, which is shaded by soaring palms.
