Tatler’s exclusive first look at the revamped boutique hotel reveals why the property feels like a quiet sanctuary despite being in the middle of busy Causeway Bay

Hong Kong has no shortage of luxury hotels. But there’s something special about Lanson Place Causeway Bay—be it its stately heritage façade or spacious guest rooms—that has made it a cult favourite among travellers.

After closing in November 2022 for an extensive renovation, Lanson Place Causeway Bay has officially reopened with a chic new look. The redesign was led by celebrated French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, who has designed some of the world’s most beautiful hotels including Waldorf Astoria, Beverly Hills; Four Seasons George V, Paris; The Dorchester, London; and The Peninsula, Shanghai.

In a press statement, Rochon says, “Our renovation respects the DNA of this institution, which is a private, personal hotel, a warm place, a sanctuary within the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. The key principle has been to respect its soul, creating a timeless address whose character is inspired by nature.”

Lanson Place has 188 rooms and apartments, with views that show off Hong Kong’s dynamic cityscape, from the lush greenery of Victoria Park to Causeway Bay’s concrete canyon of skyscrapers.

The hotel’s new design leans heavily on classic French design elements—curved lounge chairs, a playful coming together of patterns and textiles, and a soft palette of powder blues, citrus yellow and stone. Each guest room boasts floor-to-ceiling windows.

Situated in a quieter pocket of Causeway Bay, it places guests in an authentically Hong Kong locale and is just a short walk from Tai Hang, a cool neighbourhood that’s home to cosy restaurants, cafes and boutiques.

Taking pride of place, its cocktail lounge Salon Lanson has introduced a special cocktail series inspired by local landmarks. For example, The Fire Gun, with its blend of sake, cherry liqueur, whisky, sweet vermouth and bitters, a tribute to the Noonday Gun on Causeway Bay’s waterfront.
