As we transformed how we live, the Hann Group stays committed to prioritising environmental sustainability and ensuring the well-being of its guests
To say that the COVID-19 pandemic revolutionised the world is an unsurprising thought. In less than a year, we transformed how we move, work, and live. Designed for the future, Hann Casino took lessons from the pandemic and made sure to provide the best leisure experience in the post-pandemic world.

The Hann Group (Hann), owner and developer of the Widus Hotel & Casino and the Clark Marriott in Clark Freeport Zone, recently tapped designers, architects, and engineers to incorporate both nature and technology in their mechanical design. As we become more conscious of our physical and mental health, the integrated resort drew inspiration from nature and technology to ensure the well-being of its guests. Hann Casino outfitted its features for better air quality, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability to enjoy its gaming areas worry-free.

Sustainable Design
Surrounded by Pampanga’s own tropical forests and jagged mountains, Hann Casino’s “inspired-by-nature” theme brings together natural elements into curated layers of maximalist clean lines and geometric forms. Hann’s interiors were designed by Aedas Interiors Limited HK, the company that also designed Hong Kong International Airport Midfield Concourse and the Langham in Shenzhen, among others.
"Integrating Clark's tropical forests and jagged mountains into the development's interiors keeps Hann Casino close to the heart of the locals, as well as creates a refreshing experience for the foreign guests," said Alan Hamilton, the Director of Aedas Interiors Limited HK.

Looking at Hann Casino’s front-of-house areas sparks a mix of comfort and curiosity, the timber veneer used for most surfaces was sourced from sustainably managed forests and plantations. These products and building materials were carefully hand-picked by designers. Hann’s commitment to sustainability advances development while ensuring minimal waste, less environmental impact, and less energy consumption.
The products used for development are FSC Chain-of-Custody certified, meaning that the path of building materials was traced and verified, coming from responsibly and sustainably managed forests. The team also made sure to use paint with Singapore Green Building Product certification, ensuring that it has met the green standards. Being mindful of the people and the environment, even the smallest details in its construction were given attention in the pursuit of green and sustainable initiatives.

A Breath of Fresh Air
In a place where people can be crowded together, you might be worried about the possible side-to-side virus transmissions. To address this concern, Hann collaborated with Forsspac, an engineering design and commissioning company focused on building services and systems, bringing Hann’s ideals to life. Forsspac engineers put in a system where the air is supplied through the floor and exhausted through the ceiling, called Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD). This system maintains indoor air quality in Hann Casino’s gaming areas.
"This means that the air in the casino is continually cleaned of pollutants including tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds, and critically, airborne pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19,” explained Philip J. Thoburn MCIBSE, MAPM, CEng, CEO and Technical Director, Forsspac.

In maintaining air quality and energy consumption, Forsspac installed ceiling-mounted sensors in the casino spaces to detect occupancy levels and adjust airflow accordingly. Meanwhile, in Hann Casino’s parking area, carbon monoxide is monitored to limit the energy consumed in ventilation. All systems are in compliance with local COVID-19 requirements, including areas where conventional air conditioning systems are used. Carbon dioxide is monitored and used to control the outdoor air supply against occupancy levels. All recirculated air is filtered and diluted with pretreated outdoor air.
There is no doubt that Hann knows its priorities. With all these systems in place, Hann exhibits its commitment to its guests' health and safety."With Hann Casino's design, we want to prioritise environmental sustainability and quality guest experience. We will continue to prioritise the indoor health of our developments even after the acute crisis of the pandemic has passed," said Daesik Han, Chairman and CEO, Hann Philippines Inc.
