It's only the first two months of 2023 but the year has already seen so many exciting openings in Malaysia, and the list of fun things to do grows longer by the minute. Parents, in particular, who are looking to make the most of the end of the school year holidays in February will also appreciate the myriad of family-friendly activities waiting to be explored.
The gamut starts from the opening of a new bookstore in the artsy Bukit Bintang hub of GMBB to Gamuda Cove’s latest waterpark experience with the launch of SplashMania Waterpark. Later in March, Tim Burton fans can look forward to The Word of Tim Burton exhibition, the first experience of its kind in Southeast Asia, happening at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

See Malaysia's largest and first sustainable balloon installation
From now till March 5, 2023, visitors to IPC Shopping Centre will see its Concourse area transformed into a magnificent Ocean Playground made up of 85,000 pieces of biodegradable balloons. Themed 'Ocean Heroes to the Rescue', this colourful installation presents a unique opportunity for kids to learn about endangered marine species and ocean-conservation. While exploring this beautifully recreated underwater landscape, visitors can learn about the five most endangered marine life—Hammerhead Shark, Orca Whale, Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Dugong and Giant Manta Ray—made entirely using 100 per cent biodegradable Qualatex balloons which will be properly disposed at the end of the exhibition.
Be on the look-out for exciting activities at the Atrium (Level G) that include balloon-making workshops, storytelling sessions, paper plate painting, and a photo contest.
Spend the day at SplashMania Waterpark

Pay a visit to the SplashMania Waterpark at Gamuda Cove, just opened in February with early bird tickets starting from RM63 for children and senior citizens on sale till March 31, 2023. The 18-acre waterpark features first-of-their-kind waterslides in Malaysia, including the Shaka Waka, a 78m-long multimedia and audio waterslide fitted with various LED light effects. Parents can use the park’s GL Play mobile app to buy tickets in advance, place orders at F&B outlets and receive notifications on when to collect them, and navigate their way through the park using a digital map.
Have a playdate with new Lego Friends

The world tour exhibition of renowned American filmmaker Tim Burton will make its debut in Southeast Asia right here in Kuala Lumpur at Pavilion Bukit Jalil from March 21-July 30, 2023.
Drawn from Tim Burton’s personal archive, The World of Tim Burton exhibition will feature over 500 drawings, paintings, photographs, sketchbooks, moving-image works, and sculptural installations focusing on the recurrent visual themes and motifs found in Burton’s art and films, including his iconic films like Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Big Fish (2003), Corpse Bride (2005), and Sweeney Todd (2007).
