Here’s what you need to know about the new requirement, Etias
Travelling to Europe next year? You’ll soon need to apply for a new electronic visa waiver application. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (Etias) is an electronic visa waiver for citizens of select visa-exempt countries within Europe, such as France, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal and Spain.
According to its official website, the new system was legislated in 2018 with the intent to “improve the security of EU member states within the Schengen region”.
Other than Singapore, citizens from 58 other countries and territories must apply for an Etias. Other countries include Malaysia, Japan and South Korea.

Applying for Etias
To apply for Etias, you will be required to complete an application form before your flight—this also includes travellers transiting in Europe en route to other destinations.
A processing fee of EUR€ 7 (around SGD$10) is required for travellers between ages 18 and 70. There will be no fee for travellers under 18 or above 70. Each application will be automatically processed based on identity, travel documents and background questions.
