Britain’s golden boy in the kitchen, Jason Atherton, shares his top tips on where to sup, sip and stay in his favourite foodie cities

NEW YORK

For a stylish evening I would head to Beauty & Essex. The restaurant’s decor is really funky, with peacock feathers and tapestries, pearl chandeliers and skylights. After drinks, head to the top of the Rockefeller Center for a romantic dance with your lady or gentleman.

LONDON
London is my hometown. You can’t beat London for food, culture and diversity. For fine dining and some quality food, come to my restaurant, Pollen Street Social. One of my favourite mains is the roasted Creedy Carver duck, spiced pear gel, braised duck leg, turnip and English Ale-Gar reduction. The dish is full of flavour, both spicy and sweet and the duck is perfectly tender. For dessert, try the PBJ – a playful twist on everyone’s favourite peanut butter and jam sandwich. It includes peanut parfait, cherry yuzu sorbet and nitro peanut. www.pollenstreetsocial.com

SINGAPORE
For a funky-chic boutique hotel experience, stay at the New Majestic Hotel in Chinatown. The hotel has trendy rooms and a glass-bottom pool; it’s definitely a fun place to stay at. Maxwell Road Hawker Centre has great food, and check out 28 Hong Kong Street, one of the best hidden bars in the country.

TOKYO
Japan offers fantastic food that’s fresh and healthy, and Les Créations de Narisawa is a favourite restaurant of mine. The two-Michelin-starred eatery is ranked as one of the best in the world. It’s completely unique, taking its diners on a journey through the elements. I particularly love the culture in Japan and the respect they have for seasonality. For a great place to stay, I would recommend The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo.

BARCELONA
Make sure you check out the famed La Boqueria for amazing fresh produce. The historical market is one of the best in the world, and offers everything from fresh meats and fish
to fruits and vegetables, and even ready-made tapas stalls; I’m a huge tapas lover.
