Looking to travel soon? Find out how to win free flight tickets to Hong Kong this March
The internet erupted when the Hong Kong government announced its plan to give away 500,000 free return tickets as part of its Hello Hong Kong global campaign to bring tourism back to the city.
Partnering with various airlines including Cathay Pacific, HK Express, and Hong Kong Airlines, the giveaway will begin on March 1, lasting for six months in a slow and steady roll out beginning with Southeast Asia in March and Mainland China in April, with Northeast Asia and other markets to follow.
Of the 500,000 air tickets up for grabs, Cathay Pacific has announced that it will allocate 80,000 free return flight tickets across Southeast Asia, 12,500 of which will be dedicated to Singapore residents.
The airline will launch its campaign in phases beginning with Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines on March 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia will fall in the second phase.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hong Kong has notoriously kept a firm stance on maintaining its harsh restrictions—including hotel quarantine, regular testing, QR code check-ins, and mask mandates—which has deeply affected its once vibrant tourism industry.
But that's all about to change, as Hong Kong finally eases its restrictions and looks forward to welcoming visitors from around the world once more.
