Artist Chloé Chauvin found a new way of seeing Bangkok through the energy of Andaz One Bangkok

Andaz One Bangkok describes itself as a “vertical neighbourhood”, which at first might seem slightly elusive—until you stand in the central plaza of One Bangkok, and suddenly it clicks: this hotel has no intention of being isolated. Instead, it functions as an open, welcoming living room, inviting the surrounding streets, art, parks, and passersby to step inside and stay a while. Set within One Bangkok, a new pulse of the city where culture, design, retail and green space converge, the hotel draws these neighbourhood elements into its own identity, forming a vivid extension of the district.

Tatler travelled to Bangkok alongside artist Chloé Chauvin, whose canvases explore yet-unnamed emotions through dynamic colours and lines. We wanted to uncover what kind of alchemy would unfold when her discerning eye met Andaz One Bangkok, a hotel defined by its deep connection to local culture.

Bangkok in living colour

Above Art meets architecture at Andaz One Bangkok

Stepping into the hotel lobby, it’s impossible to overlook the monumental artwork by Thai artist Ploenchan “Mook” Vinyaratn. The hand-tufted wool tapestry, 'Blockwilt', claims the soaring, double-height space with breathtaking scale. Crimson, ginger turmeric, indigo, terracotta… It feels as though the sails of floating markets, the weathered walls of old-town alleyways, and the glazed roof tiles of ancient temples have been deconstructed, dissolved, and rewoven into a floating sky. At the same time, its shapes mirror aspects of the Wireless Road neighbourhood itself—from actual hanging wires to the rounded architectural forms that define this part of Bangkok. These hues belong entirely to the city.

Yet this is merely the opening chapter of the lobby’s narrative. Andaz One Bangkok has curated the ground floor as a comprehensive gallery space: sculptures anchor quiet corners, ceramics grace side tables, and contemporary paintings adorn the walls. Culture here is not simply “displayed”; it is an invitation to slow your pace and enter an ongoing conversation with the city.

The joy of artful expression

Above The hotel's recommended Art Loop is a must, of particular interest is this mirror-polished metal sculpture

One Bangkok itself is a captivating cultural destination for an afternoon stroll. As one of Bangkok’s newest urban landmarks, it brings together public art, architecture, gardens and gathering spaces in a way that feels distinctly contemporary, and Andaz One Bangkok draws that atmosphere upward into the hotel’s own sense of place. We followed the hotel’s recommended Art Loop, where sculptures and installations lie scattered across plazas, green spaces and walkways. One mirror-polished metal
sculpture is particularly striking: its surface, buffed to a fluid sheen, reflects the stream of passersby, swaying palm fronds and drifting clouds.

As dusk settles, the music fountain in the central plaza comes to life. Children dart through rays of light as a gentle evening breeze catches the fine water mist. Sitting by the pool, the true essence of Andaz One Bangkok’s “vertical neighbourhood” concept reveals itself as a vibrant web of connection. Art does not sit distant behind gallery glass; it moves alongside you. Community is no abstract concept; it is the person sitting beside you, sharing life’s simple pleasures. From here—and later from the rooftop bar and the guest rooms—the sunset becomes part of the experience too, washing the city in shifting tones that deepen the hotel’s dialogue with colour.

A lush respite

Looking out from the guest rooms, Lumphini Park resembles a brilliant emerald held tight in the palm of the city. Soaring skyscrapers surround it on all sides, their glass walls catching the bright white sunlight while the park unfolds quietly. Step inside, however, and you quickly realise that the “lungs of Bangkok” offer far more than simple greenery. Water monitors glide serenely across the lake, bird calls echo through the dense canopy, and shaded avenues are filled with urban runners taking in the evening air.

Chloé spent a late afternoon in the park with her sketchbook. On paper, she raised a red pavilion—its subtly upturned eaves glowing in a thin, amber halo of setting sun, encircled by lush, deep greens. Upon finishing, she flipped open her notebook to jot down a few fleeting thoughts. For an artist, certain impressions exist only for a moment; they must be captured before they slip away. Sketches and handwritten notes sit side-by-side on the page, forming a personal perspective of the city.

The hotel’s wellness offerings extend this sense of quiet recalibration. Among them is Ruesi Reset, inspired by traditional hermit self-stretching practices, offering a locally rooted counterpoint to the city’s intensity and another way in which Andaz One Bangkok connects guests to place through experience.

Terrace mornings and handwoven traditions

Above The hotel's weekly guest workshop: fashioning woven fish from palm leaves

In the quiet early hours, a light tropical warmth hangs over the restaurant terrace. Chloé set up her easel by the balustrade, capturing the changing morning light over breakfast. In the brief pauses between brushstrokes, she opened her notebook to record her thoughts. For a creator, the true essence of travel lies in allowing unfamiliar sights, sounds and aromas to filter through the senses—eventually transmuting into paint on a canvas or ink on a page. Here, that sensory experience stretches beyond the visual: breakfast on the terrace, locally inspired cocktails, delicate dim sum afternoon delights, and the interplay of ingredients, design and environment all contribute to the hotel’s carefully curated atmosphere.

This attention to colour also appears in Andaz One Bangkok’s “Colour of the Day” theme, which subtly threads through hotel programming and offerings, from cocktails and canapés to in-room touches and amenities. The idea gives colour a lived presence within the stay, turning it into something guests encounter not only in artworks and sunsets, but also in the rhythms of the day itself.

In the afternoon, we joined the hotel’s weekly guest workshop. That day’s craft was fashioning traditional woven fish—a Thai charm symbolising good fortune, crafted from dyed palm leaves. Under the instructor’s guidance, Chloé carefully overlapped, tightened and shaped strands of vermilion leaf until a small red fish took form. “The instructor mentioned this brings good luck in Thailand,” she said, holding the creation up into the light. “I’m definitely taking her home.”

The magic of Bangkok nights

Above The rooftop bar at Andaz One Bangkok overlooks the city's glittering skyline

As darkness fell, we made our way up to the rooftop bar. The moment the doors parted, the city stretched out like an infinite, glowing canvas. Urban lights shimmered through the warm tropical haze, while distant traffic wove rivers of gold and crimson across the landscape. Framed by the camera, Chloé sat at the bar against the glittering backdrop of the metropolis. Her sketchbook, notes, and handwoven palm fish rested quietly in the frame—silent yet eloquent storytellers that symbolise her
journey.

The day reached its peaceful conclusion at the writing desk inside the suite. Pen in hand once more, Chloé began returning everything her eyes had gathered back to the paper, one stroke at a time. The physical journey had reached its end, but the creative process was only just beginning. In that quiet moment, the alchemy first imagined at the start of the trip seemed to have taken on a fuller form: her palette had shifted, her way of seeing Bangkok subtly deepened by the colours, textures,
flavours and moods of Andaz One Bangkok.
