Alcaraz? Djokovic? Sinner? Wimbledon 2024 is anyone’s game at this point, and people are making their predictions
As the most prestigious of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held annually, Wimbledon brings together eager fans from across the globe to tune in. For some, the allure comes from its strict and unique traditions—such as the strict all-white dress code or the iconic combination of strawberries and cream for spectators to enjoy. For most, it is the fierce competition between players—forming long rivalries that cause uproar. In this article, we ask our Tatler community members who they think is destined to win this year’s Wimbledon.

Jon-jon Rufino is torn between Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner for the men’s side. As for the women, he believes that Iga Świątek, Elena Rybakina or Coco Gauff are strong contenders for the Wimbledon trophy. “It’s easy to think it will be Alcaraz or Djokovic or Sinner in that order. Well, maybe Sinner over Djokovic. For the women, Świątek, Rybakina, and Gauff look possible,” shares Rufino.
Update: Alcaraz beat Djokovic in the Men’s Singles finals, crowning him as Wimbledon 2024’s champion.

While he’s not personally rooting for anyone to win Wimbledon—as he thinks they’re all equally great players—Daria Kasatkina holds a special place in his heart because she carries the pride flag. “I do not feel greater joy when one wins over another, but I would love to see Kasatkina win since she’s the highest-ranked player to wave the rainbow flag. I would love to have her win some big things,” he ends.

Abba Napa believes that Coco Gauff, Alcaraz, and Sinner have great chances of winning Wimbledon but would love to see Ons Jabeur and Emma Raducanu have more screen time this season. Her favourite players? “Of all time, it’s Roger Federer and Steffi Graf,” Napa shares.
Update: Czech’s Barbora Krejčíková won the Women’s Singles finals, beating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

For Angelo Comsti, he believes that Djokovic and Alexander Zverev would make for great comeback stories if they win Wimbledon, but if he’s basing solely on this season’s results, he’s predicting either Sinner or Alcaraz to win. “Alcaraz has a slight edge given that he is the defending champion,” says Comsti. “Though I’m hoping Tsitsipas bounces back as I always go for the underdog.”
Update: Tsitsipas reached the second round of Wimbledon but ultimately got eliminated by Finland’s Emil Russuvuori.

Finally, Tess Maquera believes that Alcaraz will win since he just won the French Open and reminds her of Rafael Nadal’s determination. While she has rooted for plenty of Wimbledon legends in the past, such as Martina Hingis and Serena Williams—and now Świątek—she hopes to see Gauff win the finals.
Update: Gauff played until the pre-quarterfinals where she was beaten by the United States’ Emma Navarro.
