Nicknamed 'The King', Pelé has died at 82

One of the greatest athletes of all time, Pelé has passed away at the age of 82 "due to the failure of multiple organs, a result of the progression of cancer of colon associated with his previous clinical condition", according to the hospital statement. His passing was also confirmed on his official Instagram. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940, Pelé was the global icon of football.

Pelé is the only male player to have won three World Cups, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. His track record at the World Cup is an astounding total of 77 goals, a record he shares with Neymar. He is best celebrated for Brazil's triumphant outing in 1970, considered one of the best football teams in history.
