Portuguese athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo, is regarded as having one of the most illustrious careers in footballing history. Get to know him and five of his most memorable games below.

In the span of his football career, Cristiano Ronaldo has bagged five Ballon d’Or awards, and four FIFA Club World Cups, and has also won UEFA Champions Leagues. The Portuguese player's determination in the arena has made him one of the world's best players.

In more recent times, the 37-year-old athlete was reported to have left Manchester United, bringing his second spell at the club to a slightly disappointing end. This is assumed to be the player's last appearance at a World Cup, and it is still unclear which club will sign him for the second half of the season.

1. When he won his first trophy

At 18, the young Ronaldo impressed Sir Alex Ferguson in a match between Man United and Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese player was offered a spot in the Devils (Manchester United F.C.).

Even when the group did not have any trophy-filled season compared to its previous games, they managed to win the FA Cup with Ronaldo scoring a header. This was the first major trophy he won. 

2. When he joined Real Madrid

Ronaldo's success at Manchester United opened many opportunities for him. He was able to fulfil his childhood dream of joining the highly regarded football club Real Madrid. Because Ronaldo had already established himself as a good player, his move came with a record-breaking fee of £80 million ( 5.4~ million pesos).

3. His Performances in the KO stages of the 2016-2017 Champions League

Real Madrid successfully defended its title during the 2017 Champions League, all thanks to Ronaldo.

The player was able to score two goals against Juventus in the final, three goals against Atletico Madrid, five goals against Bayern Munich, and ten goals from the quarterfinals to the final. 

4. When he won his fifth Ballon d'Or

The Ballon d'Or or "Golden Ball" is an annual football award given to the best football players of all time. Ronaldo won his first Ballon d'Or during the 2008-2009 season whilst still at Manchester United.

As of this writing, Ronaldo already won five of these awards: one in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017. 

5. When he became Real Madrid's top goalscorer

The award for being a football club's top goalscorer is typically given to players who have stayed in the team for the entirety of their careers. This was not the case for Ronaldo, who in just seven seasons, became Real Madrid's top goalscorer. 

Ronaldo had taken over Spanish player Raúl who scored 323 goals in 741 games over 16 years at Real Madrid.
