Here’s what you need to know about the 22-year-old golfer that’s taking the main stage
Hiroshi Tai is making waves in the world of golf, soon to be the first Singaporean to play at the prestigious Masters Tournament at Augusta National next year. The exciting news comes after he won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Men’s Golf Championship on May 27, which secured him a spot at the 2025 Masters.
Since 1910, the NCAA has been overseeing collegiate sports and organising annual national championships for various sports, including golf. The premier collegiate golf tournament in the US, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship crowns the top men’s college golf team and individual champion each year. The tournament has also launched the careers of many legendary professional golfers, including Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
At 22 years old, Tai already has a wealth of experience under his belt. He was first introduced to the sport at the young age of four, when his parents brought him to the Singapore Island Country Club’s Bukit range.

Tai began climbing Junior golf ranks in 2017 when he won fourth place in the Junior Orange Bowl International Championship. While at Windermere Preparatory School, Tai played three seasons and led the team to a district championship in 2019. Tai was also ranked 45th place on the American Junior Golf Association and No. 40 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard in 2020.
In 2022, Tai enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology to study Business Administration. In his freshman year, he played every event for the university and earned various collegiate victories. His triumphs have elevated him to 70th place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

While Tai was born in Hong Kong and has lived in Florida with his family since middle school, the golfer returned to Singapore after graduating high school in 2020 to serve his National Service in the Singapore Navy.
On top of Tai’s achievements in the sport, he was also on the Dean’s List in Fall 2022 and the All-ACC Men’s Golf Academic Team 2022-2023.

We won’t have to wait until the 2025 Masters to see Tai on the greens again as he is set to play with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the team championships later this month.
