每屆世界盃都有各自的吉祥物,今屆卡塔爾世界盃有別於近屆賽事以動物為造型的吉祥物設計,卡塔爾世界盃的吉祥物名為"La’eeb",在阿拉伯語中意指「技術高超的球員」,造型取自阿拉伯傳統白色頭巾及長袍,藉"La’eeb"散佈歡樂及信心。

早前英女皇伊麗莎白二世Queen Elizabeth II與世長辭,出生於1926年的英女皇伊麗莎白二世,與世界盃的淵緣甚厚。第一屆世界盃早於1930年開始舉辦,英女皇是世界盃的忠實座上客,於1966的世界盃上更為英格蘭頒總冠軍。過往歷年的世界盃中,英女皇亦曾多次作為觀眾親自參加賽事。即將到來的卡塔爾世界盃2022,將是有史以來第一次沒有了英女王伊麗莎白二世參加的世界盃。

卡塔爾世界盃將是有史以來第一次在冬季舉行的世界盃。在過往的歷屆世界盃舉辦日期中,通常都是在5月到7月舉行。但今屆的卡塔爾世界盃2022將在11月至12月舉行。原來是因為卡塔爾是一個中東國家,通常在6月至7月期間會出現熱浪,在這些月份卡塔爾的溫度可達40至50度高溫。 為了讓世界盃球賽的天氣條件更好,今屆的卡塔爾世界盃改為11月至12月舉行。這段時間卡塔爾氣候涼爽,非常適合球員和觀眾舒適地享受世界盃比賽。

卡塔爾其實並不是太著重足球運動。卡塔爾自1960年成立了足球協會,並於1963年成為國際足聯的成員。此後,卡塔爾一直在努力爭取獲得國際足聯世界盃的參賽資格,但一直未能成功。在1990年卡塔爾成功進入亞冠資格賽的決賽,這離進入世界盃門檻已經夠近了,但最終都是失敗告終。因此卡塔爾將是第一個從未參加過世界盃的東道國。由於卡塔爾今屆作為東道主,將自動獲得參加2022年世界盃的資格,可說是終於望穿秋水,這個參賽資格就像是自動降臨。
