Real stories of families and wealth management at the launch of Sun Life Premier Legacy show the importance of securing your legacy
When was the last time you sat down and thought about where you stand financially? Those life and career milestones we’ve achieved are one thing, but it’s another thing entirely to make sure their benefits persist. For every inspiring success story of a family securing their future, there are details to be examined. These multiple perspectives, reasons and circumstances were explored at the Sun Life Premier Legacy Launch.
Sun Life Philippines chief client experience and marketing officer Carla Gonzalez-Chong shared proprietary research that revealed rather concerning insights. Only a fraction of Filipinos—about 18 per cent—have a legacy plan in place, while only a third of that number have informed their family members and children about it.

“But behind these statistics or numbers,” she explained, “there are also very deep concerns.” While there is a negative element, such as ill-prepared heirs, market uncertainties and family disputes, there is a hopeful side to it as well: Philanthropic ventures appear to be a major factor in decision-making and financial planning. To this effect, guest speaker Professor Enrique Soriano shared anecdotes from his long career as a family governance advisor to illustrate the importance and prudence of good planning.

Sun Life Premier Legacy is meant to address all these concerns and wrap them up in a tidy, uncomplicated bow. “It’s a comprehensive wealth preservation solution designed for complex family situations,” Gonzalez-Chong explains. More specifically, it is for those who want their hard work to be felt not just by their children, but their grandchildren as well. Its inclusions include trust funds, allocations for charities and foundations, access to critical forums and a veritable wealth of others meant to give every advantage needed.

Broadcast journalist and entrepreneur Niña Corpuz confided that she had only recently begun considering insurance as a reality she would have to face. “My mum had a knee replacement surgery,” she shared during the open forum. “She called me and told me not to worry about the operation, because she had insurance.”
“Sometimes we think, ‘what will happen to my parents’. But my mum didn’t want to give me that burden,” she adds. “I see all that, and I want to be able to do that for my kids—to not give them any burdens.” Indeed, this sentiment of wanting our children, and their children’s children, to be well-equipped rests on one’s preparations today. Sun Life Premier Legacy features every measure necessary to guarantee a seamless transition of wealth, property and legacy, so that what you’ve built continues to stand.
