Once Brunei’s most eligible royal bachelor, HRH Prince Abdul Mateen officially tied the knot this week with fiancé Anisha Rosnah Adam Isa Kalebic, just a year after the high profile wedding of his sister, Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah in January 2023.
The first big royal wedding of the year kicked off this week, first garnering enthusiasm (with some disappointment, of course) among fans and netizens who shared their heartiest congratulations when Prince Mateen posted a New Year’s Eve greeting on his official Instagram page with a charming photograph of himself and his intended, her sparkling engagement ring in full view.
The fourth son of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, Prince Mateen has reportedly known his commoner bride since they both were very young, though he rarely posted photos of them together on social media. She is also the granddaughter of his father Sultan Hassanal's special adviser, Isa Ibrahim.

The ten-day festivities started on Sunday in Brunei, opening with an intimate Khatam Quran session, in which the bride wore a custom-made baju kurung by Malaysian designer Teh Firdaus, who is Selangor-based. The intricate white baju kurung was made of woven tenunan Brunei, a textile that's traditionally used for ceremonial costumes in royal events.
The wedding celebrations began with a ceremony of the proposal of marriage to receive the Royal Command. This was followed by performances by royal court musicians, an exchange of vows, and a Berbedak Mandi ceremony on January 10 at the palatial Istana Nurul Iman, in which the bride wore yet another beautiful white baju kurung by Teh Firdaus, followed by a stunning red ensemble with a lavish headpiece.
The Majlis Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja commenced at Istana Nurul Iman's Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana, followed by a royal ceremony for the exchange of vows on January 11.
Subsequent events, including a royal wedding reception on Sunday (14 January) will feature a parade through Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital. The celebration concludes with a glittering royal banquet, where guests from around the world, including Britain’s Prince and Princess of Wales and Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa, are rumored to attend.
