We shine a spotlight on Roen Cian Nagapan, who relish the joys of fatherhood, nurturing a bond that will last a lifetime

Running multiple businesses makes Roen Cian Nagapan a very busy man, but that doesn’t stop him from spending quality time with his two daughters, Shaelyn, 7, and Bella, 5. “We are very close as we spend a lot of time together,” says Roen of their close bond. “And they have [certainly] taught me patience,” adds the versatile entrepreneur behind The Roof, Common Ground, Plastic Pitches, Alibi, Gong Cha, The BBP, and the Circa Bar.

Since his daughters came into the picture, Roen Cian’s life has changed drastically. “Days start much earlier, and they take up a lot of time. But I wouldn’t change that for anything.” He likes to see them off to school daily and drive them to classes, as this gives them time to chat about their day.

The doting dad takes pride in being actively involved in their lives in order to build a strong bond with the girls. He emphasises finding activities they all love doing together, such as rock climbing, ice skating, football (for Bella), and gymnastics (for Shae). These activities not only bring them closer but also allow Roen to witness his daughters’ growth and passions.“We have many great moments, but on holiday is when we are more carefree,” shares Roen about special moments that stood out when he felt the entire family connected.

When asked about his parenting style compared to his wife Carey’s, Roen admits he often played the role of the “bad cop”, while Carey is “more chilled”. However, he knows that parenting roles will evolve over time. Despite this, when it comes to making decisions, he and Carey always made sure to present a united front. “I always run the ideas through Carey before we make a decision on how to move forward,” he says.

In a world where girls often face societal pressures and stereotypes, Roen understands the importance of providing positive reinforcement and encouragement to foster strong self-esteem and confidence in his girls. When asked what advice he would give them to see them through trying times, it would be “to try their best to be themselves, which is easier said than done,” admits Roen. But in the end, “don’t be too worried about people judging you.”

While it comes with its own set of challenges, fatherhood is clearly a role that Roen cherishes, and he looks forward to navigating life’s grand adventures together.
