The Los Angeles fires have destroyed acres of land, including the homes of Hollywood A-listers

The Southern California wildfires that started on January 7 persist as the area faces fierce winds. So far, the wildfires have resulted in at least 25 fatalities, forced over 180,000 residents to evacuate, and damaged more than 12,401 structures.

Four major fires caused the most destruction: the one in the Palisades, perhaps the area most covered in the media, where the fires have destroyed more than 5,300 structures; the Eaton fire in the Altadena area, currently the deadliest, with the most fatalities; the Hurst fire, a relatively smaller conflagration; and the Kenneth fire in the West Hills neighbourhood, which has been fully contained as of January 12.

Among those affected by the fires are Los Angeles’ most famous residents— the celebrities who call LA their home. While many have stepped up to the plate and lent a hand, a good number have shared their plight as well.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton’s Malibu home, a US$8.4 million beachfront property where she lived with her husband, Carter Reum, and two children, was completely destroyed. “I’m standing here in what used to be our home, and the heartbreak is truly indescribable,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Milo Ventimiglia

The This Is Us star lost his Los Angeles home to the Palisades fires. The tragedy, fans noted, was eerily parallel to the fate of his character in the show. “It’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” the actor said in an interview. He and his wife, Jarah Mariano, are expecting their first child.

Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore’s home, a dreamy mid-century modern gem in the hills, was lost to the fires. The actress had lovingly restored the Pasadena property to showcase its 1950s identity. Moore’s family is reportedly sheltering at the Beverly Hills home of longtime friends Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma.

Miles Teller and Keleigh Teller

The couple’s residence, bought for US$7.5 million, was reduced to ashes and rubble by the wildfires. Keleigh took one last photo of their property just as they were evacuating and posted it on Instagram, saying, “We will come back stronger than ever.” She also thanked all the first responders who fought through the flames and rubble.

Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg

The couple’s house, a cozy and stylish residence which they fondly referred to as their “forever home,” was destroyed. They frequently shared glimpses of their life there, including moments with their two young children.

Tina Knowles

Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, lost her beach-side Malibu bungalow. The author, philanthropist, and businesswoman has since been posting non-stop about emergency shelters and ways to volunteer. Meanwhile, Beyoncé announced that she will be donating US$2.5 million to a relief fund.

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody

The couple’s home, a family-friendly property with a modern aesthetic, was among those lost. The actors often kept their private life there away from the public eye, but were recently in the spotlight after attending the Golden Globes, where Brody was nominated Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for his role as the “hot rabbi” in Nobody Wants This.

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson’s Malibu house, an expansive property overlooking the ocean, was destroyed while he was away (supposedly while recording an interview with Joe Rogan in Austin, Texas). The actor and director has lived there for 15 years.

Anna Faris

Actress and comedienne Anna Faris lost her residence in the Palisades fires. She bought the home in 2019 for US$4.9 million, following her split from actor Chris Pratt. It had been a personal space where she enjoyed time with her family.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

The Emmy-winning actress lost her Los Angeles home, where she lived with her husband, Brad Hall. The Mediterranean-style property was a beloved sanctuary for their entire family. It was also where they raised their sons, Henry, 32, and Charlie, 27.

Ricki Lake

Hairspray actress Ricki Lake’s residence, a peaceful and picturesque home, was destroyed in the fires. She often described it as her retreat from the demands of her career and often shared sunset views on social media. In a recent post, the actress claims medium Tyler Henry foretold the tragedy in October last year.

Cary Elwes

The Princess Bride star, now 62, lost his residence to the wildfires after documenting his evacuation on Instagram, with the hashtag #Bibilical. The property was a classic Hollywood home, rich in character and history.

Jeff Bridges

The actor’s four-bedroom residence, a rustic and serene property that has been with the Bridges family for generations, was destroyed. He and his siblings inherited the home from their parents.

Candy Spelling

Candy Spelling’s residence, a sprawling property located near Jeff Bridges’ house, was lost. She owned the house with her husband, the late TV executive Aaron Spelling, for 50 years.

John Goodman

John Goodman purchased his US$4.6 million Los Angeles home in 2008. The spacious property, with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, was reduced to ashes in the Palisades fire.

Eugene Levy

Schitt’s Creek star Eugene Levy, 78, lost his two-story home, a tasteful and understated property, in the wildfires. Levy has been serving as the Pacific Palisades Honorary Mayor since January 26, 2021.

Billy Crystal

The comedian and actor lost his home of 46 years, where he and his wife Janice raised their children and grandchildren. “Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can't be taken away,” the actor said in a statement.

Anthony Hopkins

Legendary actor Anthony Hopkins, who turned 87 on January 31, recently spoke out after losing his Malibu residence: “As we struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires, it’s important to remember the only thing we take with us is the love we give.”

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt

Reality TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt’s Pacific Palisades residence was destroyed in the wildfire, but their response resulted in a glimmer of hope. They turned to social media to rally support for Montag’s album Superficial, urging fans to stream it as a gesture of solidarity. Remarkably, 15 years after its release, the album has soared to No. 1 on iTunes.

Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam

The couple purchased their home in 2017, where they raised their two daughters, Shaelyn and Janita. They finished renovating the five-bedroom, six-bathroom property in 2018.

Melissa Rivers

Melissa Rivers, daughter of Joan Rivers, lost her memory-filled US$7.7 Santa Monica home. She later revealed that before evacuating, she grabbed her mom’s Emmy, a photo of her dad, and a drawing that her mom had done of her son.

Yolanda Hadid

Yolanda Hadid’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mansion, known as the Carbon Canyon Estate, was another iconic property lost in the wildfires. Here, she raised her daughters, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid. It was also once rented by Kylie Jenner. She sold the property in 2015.

Diane Warren

The prolific songwriter lost her home of 30 years. It was filled with memorabilia and awards, and was a reflection of her storied music career. In an Instagram post, she revealed that her rescue ranch and the animals she supports through the Diane Warren Foundation are all safe.

Jhené Aiko

Singer Jhené Aiko lost her home, which she shares with rapper Big Sean, two-year-old son Noah, and 16-year-old daughter Namiko. They were out of town when a neighbour sent them a photo of their burning house.

Joshua Jackson

Joshua Jackson’s childhood home in Topanga Canyon was also lost in the fires. In an Instagram live post with Dawson’s Creek co-star Sasha Alexander in 2024, Jackson shared that he bought back the house for his daughter, whom he shares with ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith.

These losses highlight the widespread devastation caused by the wildfires across various communities in Los Angeles. Celebrities and locals have rallied behind those who lost their homes, organising donation drives and fundraisers to support immediate needs.
