Assouline’s latest release explores the profound bond between fathers and their children, capturing the essence of love and the emotions that define their relationship

Throughout our lives, many of us have seen our fathers as protectors and supporters. They have been our pillars of strength and guidance, helping us tackle life’s major milestones—like learning to ride a bike, starting school and navigating the challenges of growing up. The invaluable lessons our fathers impart, from the importance of integrity and hard work to the nuances of empathy and resilience, have truly shaped who we are and the values we hold dear. Today’s fathers are not just present; they are actively engaged in their children’s lives, taking part in daily activities and creating cherished memories. They understand the profound significance of being present, being involved and making an effort to encourage open communication and emotional bonds. It’s heartening to know that their presence and influence will leave a lasting impact, resonating throughout their children’s lives for years to come.

International publishing house Assouline’s recent release, Father and Child, offers a glimpse into the thoughts and aspirations of over 50 fathers from around the world. With 300 pages, the book features never-before-seen photos and untold stories, captured and written by author and photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank.

What makes Father and Child truly inspiring is its rich diversity—not just in the fathers’ backgrounds, but in their unique parenting styles and quality time spent with their kids. Some emphasise the importance of authenticity and bravery, while others highlight emotional openness and a sense of curiosity. These heartfelt stories beautifully showcase the evolving nature of fatherhood today, reminding us that being a father is as much about nurturing personal connections as it is about embracing the responsibilities that come with it. This book is a heartfelt celebration of the countless ways fathers contribute to their children’s lives and shape their futures.

“No good life can flourish without harmoniously blending the examples of the fathers with the new identities of the young,” says Brunello Cucinelli, one of the fathers featured and the author of the book’s foreword.
