Believing that our moods greatly affect the way we drive, Volvo Cars' latest ad campaign For Life looks at safety from a different aspect
Moods can have a significant impact on driving behaviour, and different moods can affect driving in different ways, which is something Volvo Cars wants people to realise.
Being a strong proponent for road safety—Volvo famously allowed the patent for seatbelts to be free and open so other car manufacturers could benefit from its innovation—it was among the first to switch to electric, noting that protecting the planet is also something that will impact our safety as a whole.

Our moods affect us all the time—at work, at home, and definitely behind the wheel. It's common sense that we should be in a positive frame of mind when we're driving.
Feelings of anger, fatigue and anxiety can impact our ability to fully focus and control our vehicles. We could become more aggressive on the road, have slower reaction, or even overreact to minor incidents. And while being happy would be best, we shouldn't be overexcited. Ideally, we should be calm and focused while driving.
A Volvo car already comes with the best in-class safety features, among them the radars, the cameras, and the ultrasonic sensors, the advanced lidar system that gives you a 360-degree understanding of the road and your surroundings.
Then there's the two-camera driver understanding system that can detect if you’re drowsy or distracted, and would need assistance. There's also the occupant sensing, designed to help prevent anyone from being inadvertently left behind in a potentially dangerous situation.
Volvo's key message from its For Life campaign is to be aware of your mood and how it may affect your driving performance. If you're not feeling well, it's always better to avoid driving or wait until you're in a better mood before getting behind the wheel.
