The Lexus UX300e all-electric vehicle is proudly crafted with the utmost attention to detail and consideration for the environment

Nowadays, cars are practically extensions of ourselves. More than just mediums to carry us from one place to another, they are representative of our sensibilities and values. The Lexus UX300e is just that—a luxury vehicle that takes no shortcuts in becoming a definitive feat of engineering. It is thus easy to understand why this is the car of choice for discerning individuals such as chef Nicco Santos, the owner and chef behind a number of sought-after restaurants in Metro Manila. Whether it’s creating a car or preparing a meal fit for fine dining, persistence and patience in its creation are key to unlocking its full potential.

The UX300e is an all-electric car built and designed by Lexus’ master craftsmen. It is sleek, compact and extremely manoeuverable, making it well-adapted to taking on the dense urban landscape. Its front grille features closeable shutters, further enhancing its aerodynamics and agility. Navigating the urban jungle can be a challenge, but this vehicle rises to the occasion.

Its interiors are exceptionally modern while respecting its cultural roots. One can deeply appreciate the comfort of its seats embroidered with sashiko inspired quilting, typically used to reinforce uniforms and traditional martial arts attire. This homage to old customs contrasts with the elegantly illuminated central console that gives off a futuristic feel. Under the hood, its 72.82kwH lithium-ion battery boasts a range of up to 560 kilometres, which reaches full charge in ten hours using alternating current and just 80 minutes with direct current. Safety and protection should always come first, and with Lexus Safety Sense + 3 (LSS), which is a suite of integrated safety features, the risk of accidents are dramatically reduced. This includes Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System and Steering Assist, among others.

A luxury electric vehicle of this calibre perfectly complements those who expect nothing but the best of themselves. As the chef who brought to the Manila dining scene several hit restaurants, including Your Local, Hey Handsome, Essential Goodness and Celera, Santos is no stranger to commitment, hard work and precision—all values that the UX300e embodies.

the UX300e embodies. “For me, everything starts with intention,” Santos explained, speaking of his motivations behind his cooking. “I ask myself who it’s for, its potential business contribution; do we need to create something to talk about or something familiar? What is its potential sales impact and hit rate?” This fierce devotion to excellence is reflected in the dishes he makes, whether it’s something new or an innovation of an existing favourite.

“Creativity is wasted when there’s no true intention to create an impact,” he said. “The Salmon Donburi that I made for Your Local is probably the best example. The inspiration was a torched salmon sushi that I got in conveyor belt sushi spots in Singapore 17 years ago.” Santos thought that a rice bowl using this fish would be a lot more satisfying than just two quick bites, and several years later, the dish has remained a mainstay of this restaurant’s menu. Santos emphasises this culture of sustainability in his craft, be it through sourcing his produce from local farmers and fisheries or developing and nurturing his staff. “Being in hospitality has made me even more observant as a chef, a mentor, a father and as a human being,” he added.

Even something as simple as venturing beyond the borders of the city is crucial in developing our worldview. For Santos, the journey itself is just as important as the destination. “I’ve been scuba diving since I was young,” he enthused. “The drive to Anilao or any beach has always been a special one because I know I’m slowly inching myself to the sea.” “I think, in this stage of life, it’s important to stay perfectly in control. Being able to rely on your car and saving the environment in the process makes the drive a whole lot more meaningful.”

It’s imperative to have a car that suits your values and ideals, and for discerning entrepreneurs and individuals, the UX300e fits comfortably into that role. Excellence is something acquired through hard work and a keen attention to detail— traits that are invaluable to both entrepreneurs, chefs and cars alike. This is marvel of a vehicle that is as sophisticated, refined and environmentally conscious as you are—and you shouldn’t settle for anything less.
