From heritage cues to modern customisation, Mercedes-Benz the G-Class enters its next chapter in style
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off its complete new G-Class line-up in Singapore, unveiling the all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology alongside the updated G 500 and Mercedes-AMG G 63. The trio took centre stage at G-Haus, a three-day brand showcase that blends heritage, innovation and lifestyle appeal—a fitting introduction for one of the most recognisable silhouettes in motoring.
For 2025, the G-Class portfolio has never been broader. There’s the G 580 with EQ Technology, the first fully electric version of the off-road icon; the G 500, a modern evolution of the petrol-powered classic; and the Mercedes-AMG G 63, where off-road muscle meets performance-car pace. Together, they speak to both long-time aficionados and a new wave of drivers who expect their luxury SUV to be as capable in the city as it is in the rough.

Built on legacy, tuned for today
Since its debut in 1979, the G-Class has stood for strength, individuality and a certain unflinching presence. The latest generation stays true to those values while integrating modern engineering and technology. Ladder-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks (for the G 500 and AMG G 63), Low Range off-road gearing, and a combination of rigid rear axle with independent front suspension underpin the line-up’s capability.
Depending on model, ground clearance ranges from 233 mm to 244 mm, and fording depth reaches up to 850 mm in the electric G 580. Approach and departure angles, side-slope stability and gradeability figures all confirm the G-Class’s readiness for challenging terrain. Inside, a new Offroad Cockpit display consolidates relevant data and functions to support off-road driving, while features like the “transparent bonnet” camera view make it easier to judge obstacles that might otherwise be hidden from sight.

The G 580 with EQ Technology: Tradition Electrified
The first electric G-Class retains the model’s iconic proportions while introducing a distinct black-panel grille, raised bonnet and aerodynamic refinements. Four electric motors, one at each wheel, deliver a combined 432 kW and a range of up to 491 km (WLTP) from a 116 kWh battery.
Beyond silent power, the electric G brings unique tools to the trail. G-Turn can pivot the vehicle almost on the spot; G-Steering tightens the turning circle off-road; and Offroad Crawl maintains a steady speed over loose surfaces so the driver can focus on steering. There’s even G-Roar—a sound profile inspired by the family’s V8 heritage—with different moods linked to driving modes, plus audio ‘aura’ cues when approaching or locking the vehicle.

The G500: Refined Strength
Powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six mild hybrid, the G 500 produces 330 kW (449 hp) with an extra 15 kW available briefly from its integrated starter-generator. Fuel consumption is reduced over its predecessor, without compromising the smooth surge expected from a G.
Visually, the G 500 wears its heritage with confidence: silver-chrome grille, Multibeam LED headlights, stainless-steel accents and side running boards. Inside, nappa leather upholstery, ambient lighting and a multifunction steering wheel create a cabin that feels both robust and indulgent.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63: Performance with Purpose
For those who prefer their off-roader with a serious turn of speed, the AMG G 63’s 4.0-litre V8 biturbo now pairs with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to deliver 585 hp, 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, and—with the optional AMG Performance Package—a 240 km/h top speed. AMG Active Ride Control suspension broadens the vehicle’s repertoire, keeping it composed in corners without sacrificing off-road poise.
Exclusive paint finishes, AMG-specific bumpers, carbon-fibre trim and a motorsport-inspired steering wheel set it apart visually. The Superior Line Interior package can take things further, adding diamond-stitched leather, climate-controlled seats and massage functions.
Shared tech and comfort
All models now feature the MBUX infotainment system with 12.3-inch driver and media displays, touch control, and wireless smartphone integration. Augmented reality navigation overlays guidance on live camera views, helping in complex junctions or limited-visibility conditions. Voice control is more natural and includes commands exclusive to the G-Class.
The Manufaktur personalisation programme offers more than a million possible combinations of paints, trims and upholstery—from two-tone leather interiors to full-leather cabins where even the headliner is swathed in nappa.
Mercedes-Benz positions the G-Class as part of its Top-End Vehicle portfolio alongside the S-Class, GLS, Mercedes-Maybach and other flagships—a segment that has nearly doubled in volume locally. By launching petrol and electric variants together, the brand is making a clear statement about its ability to balance tradition and change.
Whether chosen for its trail-rated credentials, luxury appointments or sheer presence, the all-new G-Class range offers Singapore drivers more ways than ever to make an icon their own. And in a city where the automotive landscape is shifting quickly, that blend of heritage and forward thinking might just be the G-Class’s most enduring capability of all.
