Following the launch of the New Model Y in Singapore and Hong Kong, Tesla introduces its latest innovation to the Philippine market. This sleeker, smoother, and quieter version of the Model Y was unveiled during an exclusive event at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza, where they displayed the vehicle’s advanced features. Additionally, the tech manufacturer has partnered with Shangri-La Resorts in an effort to provide more charging stations worldwide—starting with four Superchargers at the Shangri-La Plaza’s basement parking.

Redesigned from the inside out with a myriad of enhanced features and sleek aesthetics, the Tesla New Model Y AWD (all-wheel drive) boasts an estimated range of 551 kilometres on one full charge and is capable of going from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds coupled with a top speed of 201 km/h. The New Model Y is also available in RWD (rear-wheel drive), offering 466 kilometres on a full charge and can hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.9 seconds.

Joining the Cyber Truck and Model 3 in design language, the New Model Y blends style and practicality in its exterior—ensuring reduced aerodynamic drag. For instance, instead of the classic headlights, the new Model Y has a lightbar for a seamless driving experience. Outside noise has also been reduced by 20 per cent compared to Tesla’s previous vehicles with its acoustic double-layered glass windows.

Renowned for its superior safety features, the vehicle has eight cameras all over its body to complement the sensors and advanced software that routinely gets updates. While full-self driving capabilities and enhanced autopilot aren’t available at the moment, future drivers of the Model Y will be able to enjoy the feature in future updates—allowing your car to drive itself almost anywhere with little driver intervention.

The main concern for Tesla in the Philippines is the lack of charging stations. However, this is soon to change due to their efforts in expanding their network of Superchargers in the Metro. Two stations are currently available—one in Uptown Mall and another in the Tesla Centre in Uptown Parade—with a third station housing four Superchargers to arrive in Shangri-La Plaza. It’s estimated that it would cost PhP 19 per kilowatt to use, topping up a Model Y at around PhP 1,200—a more cost-effective and greener alternative to gasoline.
