The latest flagship device, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, may look familiar but it boasts a range of delectable upgrades
Samsung has unveiled its top-of-the-line smartphone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It is the largest model in the Galaxy S series, including the S23+ and S23. All three smartphones come in four colours: green, lavender, phantom black, and cream.
The S23 Ultra’s design is similar to last year’s S22 Ultra, featuring flat edges on the top and bottom, giving it a smooth, flat rectangle shape. It also has slightly less aggressive curved edges around the screen. Additionally, it has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating to withstand wet conditions.
Samsung’s top flagship smartphone has a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X curved edge display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is powered by a customised Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, the fastest mobile processor available. The device has a 5,000mAh battery that supports fast 45W charging- that’s claimed to be able to recharge to 65 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The S23 Ultra also offers up to 1TB of storage for apps, photos, and videos. It also comes with Samsung’s One UI 5.1 interface, which is highly customisable and includes the latest Android 13 operating system (OS). Samsung promises up to four years of Android OS upgrades.
Though the device has been upgraded internally, its most impressive feature is its 200-Megapixel (MP) camera, the first of its kind in a Galaxy device. It is part of a four-camera setup on the back, including a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 10MP 3x zoom telephoto sensor, and a 10MP 10x zoom telephoto sensor. The main camera is paired with an f/1.7 lens and utilises the sensor’s pixel-binning capability to capture highly detailed images in 200-, 50-, and 12-MP resolutions.
Photography enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the improved low light capture capabilities, better optical image stabiliser for recording up to 8K resolution videos, as well as the new Astrophoto and Astro Hyperlapse photography and videography for taking stunning shots of the night sky. Additionally, the S23 Ultra has a new 12MP, f/2.2 front-facing camera with autofocus and Super HDR, replacing the old 40MP selfie shooter.
The S23 Ultra also supports Samsung’s S Pen stylus, which can be stored in the silo at the bottom of the device. With the S Pen, you can take notes with Samsung Notes and participate in video conference calls in Google Meets.
Other features on the device include an in-display fingerprint sensor, Samsung’s security folder feature Knox, along with support for 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC connectivity.
