Ahead of its Malaysian debut, Zeekr invited us to take this little electric marvel for a spin at China's Ningbo International Circuit
When it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), the conversation often centres around efficiency, sustainability, and technological innovation. But what if we added performance, luxury, and sheer driving pleasure into the mix? Enter the Zeekr X, a vehicle poised to redefine what an electric car can be.
Ahead of its launch in Malaysia next month, I had the pleasure of travelling to China to test drive the Zeekr X at the Ningbo International Circuit. Leveraging its Geely Automotive Holdings pedigree—which includes Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus—Zeekr benefits from the group’s expertise and resources, developing a robust range of cars with the ability to scale in tandem with demand.

Above The all-new Zeekr X is a compact luxury SUV created for today’s urbanites
Zeekr aims to fill a niche in the market as a specialist developer of EVs that are not only technologically advanced, sustainable, and performance-driven but also architecturally elegant, luxurious, and safe.
From the get go, one can immediately see that the Zeekr X stands out with its sleek, modern design, making it extremely appealing to a younger crowd seeking a more exciting and angular look. Its closed grille, semi-hidden headlights, and H-shaped daytime running lights exude a futuristic vibe. The side profile, featuring frameless doors, hidden handles, and 19-inch rims, accentuates its streamlined aesthetic.
Inside, the Zeekr X does not disappoint. The cabin is a testament to luxury, featuring a premium fit and finish with Nordic-inspired design elements. The minimalist dashboard houses a 14.6-inch central touchscreen that can slide towards the passenger, complemented by a 13-speaker Yamaha audio system for an immersive sound experience.
An interesting feature is the electronically tiltable rear seats, which can create what Zeekr calls a ‘Pet Yard’. This thoughtful design allows your furry friends to enjoy the ride without dirtying the leather upholstery, making the Zeekr X as practical as it is luxurious.

The Zeekr X is equipped with a 66kWh battery and is available in two drivetrain options: a single motor rear-wheel drive Standard with 200kW of power, 343Nm of torque and 440km of range as well as a higher performance dual-motor all-wheel-drive Flagship with 315kW of power, 543Nm of torque and 420km of range. I had the pleasure of testing the Flagship version which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest in its class.
In terms of charging, the Zeekr X supports a maximum DC input of 150 kW which gets the battery from a 10-80 per cent state of charge in around 28 minutes. There’s also support for AC charging at up to 22 kW, with a full charge requiring around four hours.

Above The Zeekr X is remarkably agile and provides for a spirited drive
Navigating the curves of the Ningbo International Circuit, the Zeekr X displayed remarkable agility and composure in sharp turns during spirited driving. Despite its nifty size, the car is stable and responsive, as its dual-motor system provides excellent traction. The adaptive suspension smoothed out any imperfections on the track. The advanced braking system, twice as fast as traditional brakes, added to the confidence-inspiring drive.
All in all, the car is enjoyable and perfect for city streets. It offers effortless handling and adept manoeuvres through narrow back lanes and car parks.

The Zeekr X is more than just a car; it’s a statement of what the future holds for electric vehicles. With its blend of luxury, performance, and advanced technology, it sets a new benchmark in the compact luxury SUV segment. As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, the Zeekr X exemplifies how electric vehicles can be synonymous with excitement, sophistication, and cutting-edge innovation.
The Zeekr X is due to be launched in Malaysia in Q4 of 2024.
