Lotus Cars Malaysia recently unveiled the carmaker's most advanced vehicle yet, an all-electric hyper-SUV—the Lotus Eletre.

Lotus Cars Malaysia has introduced the Lotus Eletre, the carmaker's first hyper-SUV that arrives as a fully electric model. The grand event took place in the St Regis Kuala Lumpur, which was fittingly decked out for the reveal.

Enhancing the vibe and decor of the hotel's grand ballroom were two previous Lotus models. The Lotus Emira in a dashing Seneca Blue alongside a sporty Norfolk Mustard Yellow Lotus Elise were parked on the stage, for guests to get a view and feel of them too. Interestingly, the Elise in display belongs to Reza Mutalib, the executive director of Lotus Cars Malaysia.

Following a media preview in the morning, VIP customers of the brand and some Tatler friends got the opportunity to inspect the stunning SUV up close and personal.

As dinner commenced, brand representatives Reza Mutalib and Daniel Balmer, the regional director for Asia Pacific and Middle East, made their welcome speeches. After a musical performance, the new Lotus Eletre was unveiled in grand style.

A Sleek Beast

The Lotus Eletre is available locally in three different variants but all come with a dual-motor and all-wheel drive powertrain. In terms of range, the Eletre and Eletre S can sustain up to 600km, while the Eletre R can go up to 490km—all three variants are powered by the same 112 kWh battery.

Both the Eletre and Eletre S versions have the ability to generate up to 603 horsepower with 710 Nm of torque, which results in a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds, and a top speed of 258 km/h. Meanwhile, the Eletre R packs a punch with 905 horsepower, and an astounding 985 Nm of torque, meaning it completes the century sprint in under three seconds, with a slightly higher top speed of 265km per hour.

Then in terms of interiors, the SUV is as comfortable as it is beautiful, combining highly durable materials and immersive infotainment. All three variants of the Eletre bring a five-seater layout but there's the option of the Executive Seat pack, which offers a four-seater layout, which includes massage and ventilated seats. Materials used in the Re-Fibre interior option is crafted from repurposed fashion industry textiles, offering a new vision of sustainable luxury. Although, there is also the choice of using the soft, supportive and stylish Nappa leather option—with six different themes to choose from.

When it comes to the infotainment system, which runs on Lotus Hyper OS, the 15.1-inch central floating full HD OLED touchscreen, which folds flat when not in use is complemented by hi-fi specialists KEF. Thus the SUV features an astounding 15-speaker setup, which can be amped up to a 23-speaker system at 2,160w.

And when it comes to safety, the Eletre is equipped with top of the line features. These include an intelligent adaptive cruise control, a driver monitoring system, and rear collision warning among others. At the core of its safety features is that the hyper-SUV is outfitted with the world’s first deployable Lidar system, which makes its sensing for vehicles, pedestrians and surroundings more efficient and effective.

The price for the Eletre starts at RM578,000, followed by the Eletre S at RM648,000, and the Eletre R priced at RM798,000. The Lotus Eletre will be available for public viewing at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur until mid-May, as part of the Lotus Cars Malaysia pop-up showroom.
