The theatre scene in Singapore is about to get a lot livelier, with plenty of musical performances coming to the local stage. Case in point: broadway musical Wicked. The prize-winning production is set to premiere at Singapore’s Sands Theatre in March 2025.

1. Wicked

The award-winning musical Wicked is set to return to Singapore next year. Known as one of the most successful musicals in history, this Broadway show has garnered over 100 major awards and has been enjoyed by over 67 million people worldwide. The musical follows two witches from the land of Oz. Through powerful music and vibrant performances, the musical sees themes of identity, acceptance and the nature of good versus evil.

2. Hamilton

The long wait is almost over as award-winning musical Hamilton is set to debut in Singapore in April 2024. With book, music and lyrics by multi-disciplinary playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, this biographical Broadway sensation takes the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and his rise to becoming a prominent figure in American history. According to producer of Hamilton international tour Michael Cassel, the musical offers themes of “hope, equality and the power of storytelling”, while also captivating the audience through jazz, R&B and hip-hop numbers.

3. & Juliet

Romeo who? This coming-of-age musical is a fresh spin on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, that doesn’t end in tragedy and death. & Juliet sees the titular character embark on a fresh journey of love and life, set to an amazing score by Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin. Expect to sing along to some of pop culture’s greatest hits like Teenage Dream and Since you’ve Been Gone in this contemporary musical.

4. Mamma Mia!

The quintessentially Greek holiday number returns to local shores this October. It needs no introduction, Mamma Mia! is well-known across all generations as the musical jukebox of timeless songs by Swedish supergroup, Abba. A musical spin-off based on the two beloved movies of the same name, Mamma Mia! takes to the theatrical stage singing the tale of a mother-daughter duo (and three possible dads).

When: October 19 to November 5

5. Matilda The Musical

Roald Dahl’s famous children’s classic is brought to life by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The multi-award winning musical will be making an exclusive stop in Singapore in March 2024, bringing the imagination and wit of its namesake, Matilda. With songs written by acclaimed Australian composer Tim Minchin, the catchy Matilda soundtrack is sure to be stuck in your (and your children’s) head for days to come.
