K-pop girl group Twice, which stole the limelight once again after ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, will finally make their Hong Kong debut on December 6 at Kai Tak Stadium. Here’s what you need to know about the group before the show.
With so many K-pop groups emerging today, competition within the industry is fierce. It takes relentless effort, creative inventiveness and—some might say—star power to stay in the game.
Since debuting in 2015, the nine-member girl group from JYP Entertainment has built a reputation for infectious pop hits, eye-catching performances and a fan culture that stretches far beyond South Korea. With members hailing from several countries, Twice embodies the international spirit of K-pop, balancing cultural crossover with musical innovation. Nearly a decade into their career, they remain firmly at the forefront of the industry.
The group recently announced its first-ever concert in Hong Kong, set for December 6 at Kai Tak Stadium. Here are five things you should know about the phenomenon that is Twice.

Formed in 2015 through JYP Entertainment’s survival show Sixteen, Twice is a nine-member group featuring members from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Japanese artists Sana, Momo and Mina, along with Taiwanese star Tzuyu, were scouted abroad before training in Seoul, joining South Korean members Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, Dahyun and Chaeyoung. This blend of backgrounds reflects the international nature of modern K-pop and has helped Twice cultivate a global identity.
From underdogs to overnight sensations

Twice’s debut single Like Ooh-Ahh (2015) became the first K-pop debut music video to surpass 100 million views on YouTube. But it was 2016’s Cheer Up that catapulted them into superstardom, winning Song of the Year at both the Melon Music Awards and the Mnet Asian Music Awards in the same year. With its addictive chorus and Sana’s viral “shy shy shy” catchphrase, the track turned the group into household names, sparking a wave of memes and pop culture references that cemented their place in K-pop history.
Breaking records on the world stage
Twice has consistently set new milestones in the K-pop industry. According to Grammy.com, they were the first female K-pop group to headline stadium concerts in North America—an achievement that underscored their international popularity. They have sold millions of albums globally, becoming one of the best-selling girl groups in history. In Japan, they were the first K-pop girl group to hold a dome tour, while in South Korea, their albums frequently reach multi-million sales, securing their reputation as touring powerhouses.

Few groups can rival Twice’s catalogue of hits. Tracks such as TT (2016), Fancy (2019) and Feel Special (2019) have dominated both domestic and international charts, topping Billboard’s World Albums and World Digital Song Sales charts. Known for irresistible hooks and vibrant visuals, they have released more than 20 music videos that each surpassed 100 million YouTube views. Their ability to evolve while staying true to their pop sensibility has made them one of the most consistent forces in K-pop.
From the stage to the screen
Twice’s influence extends beyond the music stage. In Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters (2025), members Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung contributed to the soundtrack with the high-energy track Takedown, which also appears in a version performed by fictional in-universe group Huntr/x. Another Twice song, Strategy, is also featured in the film. Their involvement in the project demonstrates how K-pop artists are increasingly bridging music, film and storytelling—reinforcing Twice’s versatility and cultural reach.
