We all know that Cortesi is 25 of age, Filipino-Italian, grew up from a neighbourhood in Pasay of Manila, and currently studying to become a real estate agent on the side of her modelling. To add to our admiration for the beauty pageant titleholder, here are some details about her that might surprise you:
1. She has several tattoos
One on the bikini line, the other on the chest, and another on the wrist. But wait, there’s more: there’s one of Cortesi’s French bulldog, and another is a palm tree, probably translating to her love for the tropical setting. Though most of her tattoos are easy to miss, it does explain Cortesi as a sentimental person especially when she claimed that she always gets a new tattoo for every meaningful moment that has happened in her life. By now, Cortesi already has 11 tattoos and joked about getting a next one after the 71st Miss Universe.
2. She rescued aspins while in Siargao
It is no secret that Cortesi is a pet lover with pets making their way to her Instagram posts. But what’s moving about her compassion is, during her one month stay in Siargao last 2021, she saved two lone puppies on the streets and couldn’t resist taking in another one. Cortesi named them Nikki, Soya, and Paps. When she had to leave for Manila, she made sure that the three aspins she took in are in good hands.
3. She's in a relationship with Matthew Custodio
Matthew Custodio is a Filipino-British defender and centre-back player for the Azkals, the Philippine national football team. He doesn’t shy away from publicly showing how supportive he is to Cortesi’s endeavours and their visible love for each other is all over social media. Whenever Cortesi sees comments about the Miss Universe PH love life curse where titleholders who are in relationships become single in their journey towards the international stage, she declared that it wouldn’t work on them and the two of them just laugh about it.
4. Her advocacy leans towards the indigenous people
We've witnessed Cortesi's concern for children when she visited Save the Children Philippines and represented Smile Train for children born with clefts, acknowledge Suicide Prevention Month, repack care packages at the Frontrow Cares programme, and be recognised as a woman of style and substance at the People Asia awards. As she continues to help and support these organisations and their movements, her main advocacy is aimed to the indigenous people of the country. According to Cortesi in an interview with The Qrown Philippines, she wants to discover the Filipino culture before it was colonised. As a half-Filipina, she's always been fascinated with the indigenous people's cultures and wishes to make people aware of the indigenous groups around the country that are often disregarded. And as a real estate agent in the works, Cortesi also wants to highlight the indigenous people's land rights.
5. She loves food
Well, who doesn't love to eat? Cortesi, however, emphasises on her adventurous character when it comes to eating, and exploring and trying new dishes. She also states that she is a chocoholic, one that wouldn’t let a day pass by without consuming chocolate. But despite her fondness for food, she is active in the health and wellness aspect. Cortesi makes it a habit to meditate every day and work out through CrossFit, which is her choice of exercise, on top of her modelling and Miss Universe trainings.
6. She's a woman of power
A woman of power is one that empowers women. In the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 preliminary interview, Cortesi answers that she believes in the power of young women. And for the youth to be empowered, they must first be informed. “If you read, you will be able to be aware of what’s happening in your country and also all over the world. You always have to remember that reading, information, is key and power,” said our 71st Miss Universe representative. “As beauty queens, we use our platform to uplift other people, to influence and inspire the people around us. It makes us very powerful and influential,” Cortesi adds. What a way to encourage young women to read while her pure intent to be the next Miss Universe resonates, don’t you think?
7. Her favourite cosmetic product is lipstick
According to Cortesi, if she won't wear make up at all, it is a must that she would still put on her lipstick shade for the day. She’s also big into skincare which undoubtedly accentuates her natural beauty. With all the stunning looks and personality she’s served us with, Cortesi just keeps on proving that she’s beauty queen material.
