Netflix’s hit Korean survival series, Squid Game already made history when it earned its first US nod and win at the Gotham Awards. Now, the biggest Netflix show to date is continuing its historic trail as it receives two nominations and one win at the Golden Globes.
The 77-year-old actor O Yeong-su has made history with his Golden Globes win for Best Supporting Actor for Television today. O is the first Korean actor in Golden Globes history to win an award since its conception in 1944—the same year O was born.
O played Oh Il-nam in Squid Game, and made an impression with his powerful performance. It’s yet another historic win given that even Oscar winner Parasite didn’t receive any acting award nominations.
A first-time nominee and the most senior on the entire nomination roster, O beat out actors Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass for The Morning Show, Kieran Culkin for Succession and Brett Goldstein for Ted Lasso for the award.

Squid Game was also nominated for the Best Television Series – Drama category alongside Lupin, The Morning Show, Pose and Succession, which brought home the award.
Meanwhile, Lee Jung-jae also earned a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama together with Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong in Succession, Billy Porter in Pose and Omar Sy in Lupin. Strong received the award.
