Bird Paradise will house over 3,000 birds and feature keeper-led experiences, playgrounds and dining options

While the iconic Jurong Bird Park closed its doors in January earlier this year, we won’t need to wait too long before we get to see our favourite animals again as the country’s new bird park, Bird Paradise, is set to open its doors on May 8.

A well-deserved upgrade after 52 years, the new bird park will see 3,000 birds migrating over from Jurong Bird Park to their new sanctuary. “This ‘great migration’ was a first-time experience for both our birds and employees and I am glad to share that they are all settling in well at their new home,” shares group CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group, Mike Barclay.

Here, look forward to over 400 different avian species, including some of the world’s most threatened species like the Philippine Eagles and Straw-headed Bulbuls.

The 17-hectare park will also offer eight walk-through aviaries, each modelled after different habitats around the world, such as the African rainforests and Australian dry eucalypt forest. In each aviary, walk among free-flying birds.

Ever wondered what it was like to care for these feathered friends? The keeper-led experiences give us a glimpse into the Avian Healthcare and Research Centre, where we observe vets caring for these birds. While a visit to the Avian Breeding and Research Centre allows you to peek into the multiple conservation breeding programmes which the park participates in.

Popular experiences at Jurong Bird Park will also be available here, like the feeding session. This much-loved experience will see a return, this time with new varieties of birds such as Starlings, African Hornbills and Pelicans.

If you feel peckish when exploring the park, visit the dining area and find a selection of bites from Luke’s Lobster, Mr Holmes Bakehouse, Birds of Paradise and A&W.

On top of Bird Paradise, Mandai Wildlife Group has also introduced the Mandai Wildlife West, a public node that serves as a gateway to the new park and upcoming Rainforest Wild. Barclay shares that the new ungated community space "marks another major milestone moment for the Mandai Rejuvenation Project, with other openings to follow in the years ahead".
