The SAG Awards win increases the Michelle Yeoh-starring movie’s odds for a triumphant Oscar showdown

A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once (EEAAO) made a clean sweep at the 29th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, winning in all four categories it was nominated in, including outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan also won in their respective categories.

Yeoh, who is also nominated for Oscar Best Actress, was all choked up when she took the stage, declaring that her "heart will explode" if she spoke. Co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of Hollywood legends Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, proudly embraced her parentage: "I know you look at me and think well, 'nepo baby, that's why she's there', and I totally get it! But the truth of the matter is I'm 64 years old and this is just amazing."

It was truly an evening of overdue recognition for many of the winners. Beside Yeoh and Curtis, both of whom have been in the business for decades, it marked a triumphant comeback for Brendan Fraser and Quan who have been missing from the screen for some time.

During their acceptance, the cast of EEAAO handed the mike over to Hollywood veteran actor James Hong, 94, who started acting 70 years ago. Hong, who played gong gong (grandfather in Chinese), the father to Evelyn Wang in the movie, said: "My first movie was with Clark Gable. Back in those days... the producers said Asians were not good enough, they were not box office (sic), but look at us now!"

The SAG Awards honours the best acting performances in television and movies, and was streamed live for the first time on Netflix's YouTube channel this year. The winners are voted by actors who are members of the SAG-AFTRA, a union of actors in Hollywood.
