In his opening address, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said: “What we’ve created goes far beyond a marine destination, not just in scale, but in ambition and impact. It is a space that sparks curiosity, drives meaningful change and represents a bold investment in Singapore’s future as a regional leader in marine science and sustainability. This marks a key milestone in our long-term vision to create transformative institutions that shape a more informed, responsible, and inspired world.
“Singapore Oceanarium stands as a legacy project, one that empowers research, inspires future generations, and strengthens Singapore’s global standing as a centre for purposeful, world-class development.”
Invited guests were among the first to explore Singapore Oceanarium’s transformative spaces on its official opening day, discovering purpose-driven zones to research-inspired installations, all thoughtfully designed to spark knowledge, love and action for the oceans. On offer is a blend of immersive exhibits, hands-on programmes and interactive digital experiences.

Spanning three times the size of its predecessor, the Singapore Oceanarium takes guests on a journey across 22 thoughtfully curated zones. The expansive layout invites one on a spatial and temporal journey, from the shallow coastal waters of Singapore’s mangroves to the depths of the open ocean. Each zone is designed to inspire curiosity and foster a connection to the marine world.
There’s plenty to explore inside the new oceanarium. Among the highlights, the Singapore’s Coast zone offers an exploration of mangrove-inspired landscapes and interactive habitats. The Ancient Waters zone brings to life the story of evolution with life-sized prehistoric animals and living fossils. At the Open Ocean zone, admire thousands of marine animals behind a 36-metre-wide viewing panel.

Adjacent to the Oceanarium is the Research and Learning Centre, which further elevates the Oceanarium’s educational ambitions. The state-of-the-art facility is certified as a Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy building, which means that it’s powered entirely by solar energy and designed to minimise environmental impact.
The new centre houses immersive learning labs and collaborative workspaces to support advanced research and outreach in marine science. Partnerships with leading academic institutions such as the National University of Singapore and the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University underscore a commitment to innovation and climate resilience.

SG60 celebrations at Singapore Oceanarium
As Singapore marks its 60th year of independence, the Singapore Oceanarium is a principal partner in this year’s National Day Parade—and it’s making a splash in more ways than one. Lending its voice to the celebrations through creativity and community, the Oceanarium will be part of the festivities with a whimsical water parade float, set to cruise alongside other showpieces in a nod to the island nation’s deep connection with the sea.
At the heart of the float’s design is a touching collaboration with Aliyya Qisya, a young neurodivergent artist whose imagination was stirred by a childhood visit to the former S.E.A. Aquarium. With guidance from her mentor, local artist Aida Sa’ad, and support from inclusive arts initiative Superhero Me and the NDP team, Aliyya’s vision has been translated into a fantastical marine-inspired spectacle.
The Oceanarium's SG60 contributions extend beyond the parade route. Within the Spirit of Exploration zone, visitors can experience Ties That Bind—a moving photo gallery by acclaimed Singaporean photographers Toh Xing Jie and Michael Aw. This evocative installation explores the fragile, interdependent relationships that underpin life beneath the waves, blending documentary photography with a lyrical visual sensibility. A dedicated section spotlights marine species native to Singapore’s waters, reminding guests of the biodiversity that thrives just off our shores.
Through these installations and collaborations, the Singapore Oceanarium offers more than just spectacle—it invites reflection, connection, and a renewed sense of stewardship for our seas.
Tickets are now available at www.singaporeoceanarium.com. Visitors are encouraged to book early to take part in the SG60 opening celebrations and experience the line-up of installations, creative workshops and marine conservation talks planned for the launch period.
