How NOWZ is exploring the Achilles heel of romance through an addictive new disco-funk flavour

For this comeback, they define their concept as 'Zero Sexy', an effortless kind of sensuality—much like a zero-sugar cola that maintains its natural sweetness and refreshing taste. Yet behind this perfect balance lies a great deal of sweat and the pushing of their own boundaries.

"For this release, I wanted to convey a sharper, edgier image than before," YEONWOO shares about his preparation period. "So I paid close attention to physically preparing my body to be at its best, ensuring my appearance matched the concept as closely as possible."

It wasn't just about the visuals; musically, 'Achilles' challenged them just as much. SIYUN, who serves as the group's rapper, talks about stepping out of his comfort zone.

"Because this song has quite a few vocal parts, I initially doubted myself, wondering if I could pull them off well as the group's rapper. But during the preparation, I discovered new strengths in my voice, which made me want to develop my vocal skills even further."

In ancient Greek mythology, Achilles was an invincible, legendary warrior whose only weakness was his heel. In this song, NOWZ draws a parallel between that vulnerability and love—a force capable of shaking and piercing the armour of even the strongest individuals.

What about in real life? Amidst the gruelling schedule of being an idol, when exhaustion sets in or they face difficult times, what is the armour that keeps them afloat?

"We encourage one another and constantly remind each other that we can get through it together," HYEONBIN says, explaining his approach as a leader. "Even when situations get tough, we try to pull each other up and keep the team moving forward."

JINHYUK expands on their simplest yet most effective way to recharge. "I think we generate positive energy by doing simple things together, like sharing delicious meals or playing games. Those little moments help recharge us and turn an exhausting day into a meaningful one."

It is undeniable that growing under a label renowned for producing countless high-quality artists comes with immense public pressure and expectation. However, as time passes, their mindset has matured alongside them.

"At first, I think I felt more fear than excitement because of those expectations," YOON confesses frankly. "But now, after pouring in so much hard work, that fear has transformed into excitement. More than anything else, I am now looking forward to showing everyone what we have been working so hard on."

This intellectual and emotional growth is vividly reflected in their shifting musical direction. In their early years, NOWZ opted for heavy, intense sounds packed with aggressive choreography, but this new track 'Achilles' is a more relaxed, flowing disco-funk rhythm that perfectly mirrors freely enjoying its own groove.

YEONWOO concludes with a fascinating perspective. "To be honest, I don't think it's possible to live up to everyone's expectations because I'm just an ordinary person, and everyone has their own way of looking at me."

"So, instead of trying to satisfy every expectation, I choose to grow little by little and always do my best, so that I can be proud of myself. I believe that if I continue moving forward with this mindset, people will gradually come to accept and support what I do."

The relaxed nature of disco music doesn't end in the recording studio; it translates directly into their stage performances. For this release, NOWZ incorporates choreography that doesn't look overly manufactured. Instead, it features eye-catching gimmicks like the 'blood pressure rising' move (grabbing the nape of the neck while extending an arm) and the 'Achilles tendon dance' (tapping the toes to emphasise the ankle steps, fitting the song's title). These have become viral sensations, proving they can showcase physical strength through an exceptionally smooth and fluid groove.

"We haven't yet had the chance to hold our very own solo concert on a big stage. That is something I truly hope we can achieve. More than anything, I want to create unforgettable memories with our fans through a concert that is genuinely ours."
