The ‘Best K-Pop’ category is relatively new, debuting in 2019, but the award quickly became a barometer for international recognition. Among the early winners were BTS, the global sensation that has redefined the boundaries of K-pop with their mass appeal and music. The group’s hit single Dynamite won in 2020, and they secured several succeeding wins.
Lisa’s victory follows Stray Kids’ win in 2023 for their hit S-Class, which catapulted the group to new heights.
The group, which is under JYP Entertainment, is known for its hard-hitting choreography and experimental sounds. It took home the award last year, making it one of the standout male acts in K-pop at the moment.
K-pop’s global impact goes beyond its artists and groups—it’s driven by dedicated fans who stream music videos, attend virtual concerts, and vote actively. This engaged fandom is a key factor in K-pop’s growing presence on the world stage.

Lisa’s second win at the MTV Video Music Awards highlights not just her personal success, but also the rising influence of K-pop and its solo stars. Her achievement reflects the genre’s increasing significance in the global music scene.
It’s clear that K-pop is here to stay and will continue to evolve.
