We catch up with the South Korean heart throb as he visited Singapore for the Armani Make-up Lab pop-up last week
While many of us recognise (and love) South Korean star Hwang In-Youp for his K-drama roles, he’s more than just a pretty face.
It’s not surprising how Hwang remarkably carved his presence as one of the go-to lead actors of his generation. Like many in his industry, Hwang’s passion for acting started at a young age. While watching television as a child, he would admire various actors and hoped to be like them when he grew up. “I think it’s quite natural that I became one of those people [as an adult],” the Korean star tells Tatler Singapore.

Hwang entered the entertainment industry in 2017 as a model, which served as a launchpad into the public eye. He quickly gained recognition for his striking looks and charisma, setting him apart from others in the industry. His transition into the acting scene was quick and made his acting debut in Naver TV web series Why that same year. His performance in the series had gained him a massive following while marking him as a promising actor.
Not long after, he got his breakthrough when he starred in the popular Korean drama True Beauty. Playing Han Seo-jun, Hwang became widely loved for his charismatic and layered performance. The success of the series catapulted him to stardom, becoming a household name soon after.
Over the years, we see Hwang setting himself apart as a versatile actor, from the mysterious Han in True Beauty to loyal swordsman Park Dan-ho in The Tale of Nokdu. Hwang’s versatility as an actor took hard work—he explains how the most challenging yet important part as an actor is the ability to “persuade the viewers about the characters and the role” he’s in. “[I always wonder about how] I can effectively show the good storyline and give enjoyment and happiness to the viewer through my acting,” he adds.
On-screen, Hwang easily charms his audience, pulling them into each scene he’s in. Off-screen, he spends hours preparing to do just that. He explains that he constantly needs to understand and feel connected to each character he plays. At the end of the day, Hwang hopes to be an actor that’s mesmerising and memorable—something he’s striving to be both on and off-screen.
Apart from his charm and charisma, Hwang also draws us in with his stunning looks. Having good skin is important for him, especially as an actor and model, and it is something he prioritises each day. When it comes to skincare, he shares that his secret to youthful skin is sunscreen. As a child, his parents would help him apply sunscreen before leaving the house—a habit that he maintains to this day. “I think that [applying sunscreen] is the basic skincare that you can do to improve your skin health,” he shares. On top of sunscreen, another step in his skincare routine is to apply moisturiser before bed as he believes that it will help “make my skin even better”.
He also gives us a tip for having smooth skin—Armani Power Fabric Foundation. The medium to full coverage foundation offers a soft matte finish. Hwang adds that the foundation blends well and stays for a long period of time, allowing his skin to look and feel the best even after long hours of filming. “On top of that, [the foundation] is really comfortable to wear,” he says.
Whether it’s on-screen or off, Hwang clearly catches the attention of his fans with his talent, charm and charismatic presence. While we eagerly await his future projects, which he hints will be announced soon, one thing’s for certain: Hwang is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.
