Spring in Hong Kong has been exceptionally busy so far. Between Creamfields, Art Basel, Hong Kong Film Awards and the Rugby Sevens, the city has already welcomed many globally-recognised events—and it looks like May will continue to the same tune.
This month, Hong Kong is blessed with a number of concerts and meet-and-greet from artists coming from South Korea and Taiwan, as well as local and international festivals, panel discussions and exciting exhibitions. Here are the events you'll want to add to your calendar for May 2024.

1. Clockenflap presents: 9m88
When: May 25, 2024
Where: MacPherson Stadium
What: Taiwanese artist 9m88 is returning to Hong Kong for a show on May 25. Fresh off her stunning and packed out performance at Clockenflap Festival last Decembre, the soul singer will play her largest headline show yet with her full band at the MacPherson Stadium. Make sure to listen to both her latest album Sent (2023) and her classics such as Aim High (2019) ahead of the show.

2. M+ at Night: Hong Kong Retro-Grooving
When: May 3, 2024
Where: M+ Museum
What: In collaboration with Canton Mambo, M+’s Hong Kong Retro-Grooving will celebrate the multifaceted culture of Hong Kong through music, dance, and visual culture. From cha-cha and salsa dancing lessons to a beaded jewellery workshop and live performance of Swing Lam, Hong Kong’s iconic museum will send you back to the golden years on this special night.
3. IU’s ‘H.E.R. World Tour’ concert in Hong Kong

When: May 25-26, 2024
Where: AsiaWorld-Expo, 1 Airport Expo Boulevard, Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong
What: Korean singer and actress IU, born Lee Ji-eun, is coming back to Hong Kong after six years. The Hong Kong audience can expect the idol to perform her latest album The Winning (2024)—and maybe some of her now classics such as Love wins all (2024) or Lilac (2021)—at her first ever Hong Kong arena show in AsiaWorld-Expo for two consecutive days.

4. Celebrating Lupus awareness month with My Lupus Diary
When: May 4, 2024
Where: The Women’s Lounge, 4/F, Hollywood Commercial House, 3-5 Old Bailey Street, Central, Hong Kong
What: May is Lupus Awareness Month. For the occasion, non-profit organisation My Lupus Diary will celebrate all Lupus patients by organising a medical seminar, as well as a fashion showcase featuring 10 inspiring individuals with lupus who aim to redefine beauty and empower all those afflicted with lupus. Join the conversation at The Women’s Lounge—the Women of Hong Kong’s latest space aiming to prioritise inclusivity amongst women.
5. ‘We Have Shitty Days Too’ by Body Banter and Mind The Waves
When: May 2, 2024
Where: Bobby’s Rabble, 46 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong
What: Organisations Mind The Waves and Body Banter are joining forces for an exciting panel discussion featuring four Hong Kong athletes, who will discuss the unrealistic standards of appearance and achievement exacted on them throughout their careers. The panel will welcome Body Banter’s Stephanie Ng, who will talk about her recently published book, Olympic athlete and Mind The Waves co-founder Camille Cheng, Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete and ultra-marathon runner Vriko Kwok, and Talking Mental’s Aaron Stadlin-Robbie.
6. Hwasa's 'Twits' concert in Hong Kong
When: May 11, 2024
Where: Hall 10, AsiaWorld-Expo, 1 Airport Expo Boulevard, Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong
What: Mamamoo’s Hwasa is in Hong Kong for the very first stop of the “Twits” tour, named after her fandom. In a message to fans on Instagram, she wrote: “The thrilling first meeting of 'Hwasa' and 'Twits'. I'll shower my love on stage once more today”.
7. Tattour HK 2024
When: May 3-5, 2024
Where: Shun Tak Exhibition & Event Space, 4/F, Shun Tak Centre, 200 Connaught Road, Central, Hong Kong
What: Tattour, one of the world's largest tattoo festivals, makes its first stop in Hong Kong this year ahead of a globe-spanning circuit. Three dozen tattoo artists from around the world will gather at the Shun Tak Exhibition & Event Space for three days for an extravaganza of body ink. In addition to getting tatted, you'd be well-advised to explore the artwork on display, as well as joining one of the exchange sessions with various tattoo masters in attendance. The outdoor space will also offer food and beverages, lounge areas and lively music shows.

8. Hatarakimono Project in Hong Kong, Part 2
When: From May 24
Where: WKM Gallery, 20/F, Coda Designer Centre, 62 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong
What: Japanese artists K-Narf and Shoko’s Hatarakimono Project is coming back to Hong Kong for the second time this year, and for good reason. The first exhibition, back in March, presented an incredible archive of images of Japanese workers that the two creatives managed to collect. The second exhibition will this time present all the photos taken during their last visit to Hong Kong as well.
9. Urban Jam Festival

When: May 17-19 and May 25-26, 2024
Where: Kai Chiu Road, Yun Ping Road, Pak Sha Road and Lee Gardens Area, Causeway Bay
What: The Lee Gardens Association, Wan Chai District Office and Wan Chai District Council are set to debut their inaugural Urban Jam Festival, orchestrating a diverse range of lifestyle experiences centred around urban culture, music, and cuisine. From barbershops to vintage shops, motorcycle brands and local artists such as breaking athlete Think and street artist Yim Chiu Tong (better known as The Plumber King), this two-weekend festival is not one to miss.
