Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards return to the big screen in ‘Hello, Love, Again’, a sequel that’s captivating audiences and smashing records worldwide
Upon its release in 2019, Hello, Love, Goodbye became the highest-grossing Philippine film of all time with a total revenue of PhP880 million, until it was surpassed by the film Rewind in January of this year. The film also received recognition from award-giving bodies such as the Box Office Entertainment Awards and PMPC Star Awards.
Deemed one of the best Filipino movies of all time, the sequel—Hello, Love, Again—was released to critical acclaim on November 13. Showing in 656 cinemas nationwide, the sequel broke the record for the widest release of a Filipino film. It earned PhP85 million on its first day, grossing PhP70 million on its second.
After this successful premiere, Star Cinema released the film in 1,100 cinemas worldwide. It set the record for a Filipino film’s opening in the United States and Canada, earning US$2.4 million within its first week. In a recent Instagram post, Star Cinema highlighted that it is one of the top 10 grossing movies in the US and the closing film for the Asian World Film Festival.

When Hello, Love, Again hit the PhP566 million mark at the box office on November 18, Bernardo and Richards announced that a part of the film’s proceeds would be donated to victims of the recent typhoons in the Philippines.

The first film’s story follows the struggles of Joy (Kathryn Bernardo), a nursing graduate who works as a domestic helper in Hong Kong. Her ultimate goal is to move to Canada with her family. She is almost caught while working illegally at a bar, but a bartender named Ethan (Alden Richards) helps her emerge unscathed.
As the pair get closer, they reveal the intricacies of their family dynamics and their struggle to find independence from social pressures. The film reaches a breaking point when Joy expresses her desire to move to Canada, while Ethan wants to establish a bar in Hong Kong with her help. The couple enjoys their last few days in Hong Kong together, promising to meet again one day.
The sequel, Hello, Love, Again, stars Bernardo and Richards again, with Joy having relocated to Canada. It explores Joy’s struggles navigating a foreign culture and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on migrant workers, all while finding a way to reconnect with Ethan despite their differences.
