These Golden Globe speeches made the audience laugh, cry, smile, and applaud. Find out the most memorable soundbites from this year’s awards

One of the funniest moments of the 82nd Golden Globe Awards was Kathy Bates dramatically tearing up her planned speech after Shōgun's Anna Sawai took home Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama. We’ll never know what was written on that sheet of paper. But if her 1991 Oscar speech for Misery is any indication, it would have been heartfelt and hilarious.

Still, this year’s show didn’t fall short on inspiring spiels. The current crop of winners celebrated their triumphs with poignant, humorous, and unforgettable words.

Don’t miss: Couple moments that captured hearts at the 2025 Golden Globes

1. Demi Moore, Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture (The Substance)

Demi Moore was in shock as she won her first Golden Globe, also her first acting award in her 45-year career. Her speech expressed the downside of pretty privilege and her experiences as a more mature actress in Hollywood.

Favourite quote: “In those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.’”

2. Zoe Saldana, Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role for a Motion Picture (Emilia Pérez)

Zoe Saldana was in tears as soon as she stepped on stage to claim her first Golden Globe. Her emotion-charged two-minute speech squeezed in her overflowing gratitude for everyone involved in her achievement, from her costars and directors to her husband and sons.

Favourite quote: “I know that it's a competition but all I have witnessed is us showing up for each other and celebrating each other and it's just so beautiful.”

3. Adrien Brody, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (The Brutalist)

Adrien Brody may be an Academy Award winner, but he had just won his first Golden Globe. His heartfelt speech paid homage to his personal history, detailing his mother’s and grandparents’ immigration story.

Favourite quote: “Although I do not know fully how to express all of the challenges that you have faced and experienced, and the many people who have struggled immigrating to this country, I hope that this work stands to lift you up a bit and to give you a voice. I’m so grateful. I will cherish this moment forever.”

4. Kieran Culkin, Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for a Motion Picture (A Real Pain)

Kieran Culkin topped his on-stage burp at last year’s Golden Globes by doing a pre-show shot with Mario Lopez. “Definitely feeling that! Whole speech is gone!” he exclaimed. As is usual for the Succession actor, his speech was filled with funny quips, including a dig at his own “mania.”

Favourite quote: “The first ever acknowledgment I got as an actor was a Golden Globe nomination. I was basically a kid, and so that meant a lot. Now it’s like the best date night that my wife and I ever have.”

5. Brady Corbet, Best Director – Motion Picture (The Brutalist)

Brady Corbet thanked three people who passed away during the span of production: his grandfather, Euphoria producer Kevin Turen, and Aubrey Plaza’s husband Jeff Baena, who died on January 3. He also talked about his beautiful daughter, who was in tears watching her father on stage.

Favourite quote: “It is extraordinarily meaningful for a film like this that once a few short months ago had the odds very much stacked against it.”
