At the “Übermensch” concert, beyond the electrifying performances, G-Dragon stood out for his distinctive style and unmistakable personal flair.

The BIGBANG frontman opened 2025 with considerable momentum—unveiling his music reality show Good Day, dropping his third solo studio album Übermensch, and setting off on a worldwide tour named after the release.

After a long absence, his reappearance on the MAMA stage in November 2024 reignited global interest. K-Pop enthusiasts quickly turned their attention to his new musical ventures, sparking lively conversations across social platforms around his album, tour, and television project.

In China, a Mandarin line from Drama, a track off Übermensch, soared to the top of Weibo’s trending search list. The album itself was swiftly awarded Diamond status on the streaming service QQ Music.

2025: A bold return for BIGBANG’s iconic leader

On 25 February 2025, Übermensch, featuring eight tracks, marked G-Dragon’s long-awaited return—his first studio album since Coup d’Etat in 2013.

The release was met with immediate acclaim, both at home and abroad. Within an hour, the title track Too Bad climbed the charts on Korea’s major streaming platforms including Melon, Genie, and Bugs. G-Dragon made history as the first male solo artist to debut a song at number one on the Melon Top 100. Several other tracks from the album followed suit, landing comfortably within the Top 20.

Internationally, Übermensch sold over 650,000 copies on Hanteo in just three days, claimed the number one spot on iTunes in 30 countries, and became the first K-Pop album to earn Diamond certification from QQ Music.

Critics and listeners alike praised the album’s artistry. Rhian Daly of NME described Übermensch as G-Dragon’s most accomplished work to date—an undeniable showcase of his musical prowess.

Azrin Tan, writing for Vogue, called the album both immersive and cohesive, applauding its emotional depth and the continuity it maintains with G-Dragon’s established musical persona. For long-time fans, she noted, Übermensch feels like a worthy reward for their patience.

Beyond his chart-topping success, G-Dragon also made waves with his television venture Good Day. Premiering on 16 February 2025 via MBC and Disney+, the series debuted to solid viewership and strong public interest. Appearances by stars such as Jung Hae In, Im Si Wan and Lee Soo Hyuk added further appeal to the programme, making Good Day another highlight in G-Dragon’s dynamic comeback.

When red roses become G-Dragon’s declaration of defiance

Übermensch, the title of G-Dragon’s studio album and world tour, borrows from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who first introduced the term in his work Thus Spoke Zarathustra (Also sprach Zarathustra). For Nietzsche, it evokes a person driven to transcend boundaries—one who seeks to define life’s meaning on their own terms.

So, on 29 March 2025, when the Übermensch tour opened in Goyang, South Korea, G-Dragon became the centre of conversation. Performing his first two songs, Power and Home Sweet Home, he took to the stage dressed in blazing red—his look anchored by a rose-covered jacket and a gleaming crown. As the performance continued, the crown came off to reveal his statement platinum hair.

The rose motif in G-Dragon’s scarlet ensemble echoes the message of Übermensch—both visually captivating and deeply symbolic. More than stagecraft, it conveys a personal declaration: the rejection of limits and the assertion of identity, in the artist’s own, unmistakable style.

In fashion, red evokes passion, creative expression, and at times, dominance. For G-Dragon, it also signals his undeniable stature. In music, he has earned recognition for the calibre of his work, his refined performance skills, and a creative sensibility that continues to evolve. In fashion, he remains a catalyst—frequently launching trends that others can only follow.

And true to the Übermensch spirit, G-Dragon has never shied away from reinvention. Throughout his career, he has embraced new musical directions and daring aesthetic choices. Whether through sound or style, his work consistently captivates both fans and media.

That bold rose ensemble, then, was more than a visual flourish—it marked the return of an icon. But it also served as a statement of intent: a tribute to G-Dragon’s unyielding love for the arts, and a reminder that for him, music and fashion are not just tools of expression, but the very means through which he defines his path—and inspires others to find their own.
