To celebrate Mother’s Day, we look at mother-daughter duos in the fashion and entertainment industry, whose twinning game is strong, be it Faye Wong and Leah Dou or Angelina Jolie and Zahara Jolie
The phrase “like mother, like daughter” is an idiom that often rings true. As the first female influence in a daughter’s life, a mother will impart her lived experiences, wisdom and may share her dreams to inspire her child from an early age. Daughters tend to follow in their mum’s footsteps until their teenage years, when they’ll often think that they can do everything on their own. Young adulthood often sees them turn back on this viewpoint, and realise they’re more like their mothers than they thought.
This Mother’s Day, we look at eight celebrity mother and daughter duos that are mirrors of each other, whether that’s in physical appearance, fashion sense or career ambitions.

Singer Leah Dou has music in her heritage: she’s the daughter of Chinese musician Dou Wei, and Hong Kong icon Faye Wong, who is both an actor and singer. Dou “sang” for the first time on her mother’s song 童 (Tong) when she was only one, and now in her twenties, has released three albums and performs on stage in Hong Kong and mainland China.

In addition to her on-screen talent, Angelina Jolie has been recognised for her elegant style and red carpet looks. She shares her occasion-wear with her children too, and at a premiere for Eternals in 2021, her daughter Zahara sported a familiar garment posing next to her mum: it was the same Elie Saab haute couture dress Angelina had worn to the 2014 Oscars.
3. Cissy Wang and Jasmine Yen
While Jasmine Yen is the daughter of both martial arts legend Donnie Yen and model Cissy Wang, she’s a carbon copy of the latter. The pair have the same smile, and she’s also taking a leaf out of her mum’s book pursing a career in the limelight and releasing music.
4. Kate Moss and Lila Moss
Kate Moss is one of the most famous supermodels internationally, and now her daughter, Lila Moss, has also entered the industry. She has inherited her mum’s looks and easy-going nature, and the pair posed together for the latest Fendi Peekaboo campaign.
5. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aaradhya Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan attended a Hindu festival back in September last year wearing matching outfits in shades of yellow and blue with gold embroidery from Gulabo by Abu Sandeep.
6. Vanessa Paradis and Lily Rose-Depp
Lily Rose-Depp is a double of her mother, Vanessa Paradis, and she followed her into the modelling and acting business. She even landed a long-term role with Chanel as a brand ambassador and has modelled in multiple campaigns for the maison, including for the Chanel No. 5 fragrance, which Paradis did back in the ’90s.
